Green was recently removed from the 40-man roster after spending the entire 2013 season on the DL with a hip injury. He last played in the majors in 2012, when he hit .184/.365/.340 in 58 games with three home runs. His best professional season was 2011, when he posted a .336/.412/.580 line in the minors between Huntsville and Nashville and earned a late-season callup to the majors.
Green has been in the Brewers organization since being selected in the 25th round of the 2005 draft, and is a career .289/.370/.452 hitter in 692 minor league games. He's probably a long shot to make the Brewers out of spring training at this point, as he'll have to prove that he's both healthy and better than his past MLB numbers in a relatively short period of time. Gruman reports that the deal includes "several opt outs," though, so if he's healthy and performing in the minors the Brewers will have to either call him up or let him try his luck elsewhere.
