Today In Brewer History: Happy Birthday, Denny Lemaster

B-Ref Bullpen

This former Milwaukee Braves pitcher turns 74 today.

On this day in 1939 Denver Clayton "Denny" Lemaster was born in Corona, California. He was 19 when the Milwaukee Braves signed him as an amateur free agent in 1958 and 23 when he made his major league debut for Milwaukee on July 15, 1962.

Lemaster was very good for the Braves in their final four years in Milwaukee, although in his first full major league season in 1963 he did allow an NL-high 30 home runs. He posted a 3.69 ERA over 691 career innings in Wisconsin, and is one of just five pitchers to make 100 or more starts during the Braves' 13 seasons in the state.

Lemaster followed the Braves to Atlanta and pitched two more seasons there, including an All Star campaign in 1967, before moving on to Houston and eventually Montreal. He retired in 1972 with 90 career wins and 1787.2 innings pitched.

Thanks to the B-Ref Play Index for reminding me that Lemaster turns 74 today. We'd also like to wish a happy birthday to:
