Ryan Braun's Name Was Redacted From Original Biogenesis Report Due To "An Abundance Of Caution"

It's worth remembering that Ryan Braun's name was redacted from last week's Miami New Times report before being revealed in yesterday's Yahoo report.

Via Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, here's Chuck Strouse of the New Times on why they didn't mention Braun:

Simple: An abundance of caution.

As Yahoo! notes, the records do not clearly associate either Braun, [Francisco] Cervelli or a third player who this morning denied all ties with Bosch (Orioles third baseman Danny Valencia) with use of supplements. Yahoo! apparently obtained copies of just these page of Bosch's notebooks independently of New Times.

The players listed in New Times investigation either clearly appear multiple times in Bosch's records (like Alex Rodriguez), or had evidence in the recent past of PED use, like Bartolo Colon, who was suspended 50 games last year.

The award for "best explanation of the difference between Yahoo and the New Times" this morning goes to Alex Tomter, who tweeted this last night:

Ryan Braun's Attorney Speaks, Says He "Found Bosch's Value To Be Negligible" In 2012 Appeal

Moments ago we linked a New York Daily News story quoting a source as saying Tony Bosch of the Miami Biogenesis clinic was not used as an official expert or consultant in Ryan Braun's 2012 appeal of his 50 game suspension.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today has a quote that helps explain that a bit. David Cornwall, Braun's lead attorney in the appeal, said he typically uses Nashville-based Aegis Sciences Corporation in drug appeals. Here's what he said about Bosch in a statement:

"Bosch was introduced to me at the earliest stage of Ryan's case," Cornwall said. "I found Bosch's value to be negligible and, thereafter, I followed my prior practice of relying on Aegis in the preparation of Ryan's winning defense."

If that's true and the report that Bosch tried to bill Braun $20-30,000 for his "advice" is also true, then it seems pretty understandable that Braun and his legal team would debate the merits of that bill and end up on a list of people Bosch felt owed him money.
