Jake Roth-US PRESSWIRE

The Brewers were trying to remove him from the 40-man roster to make room for Alex Gonzalez.

The Brewers made Alex Gonzalez's signing official today, something I had completely forgotten hadn't happened yet. Fautino De Los Santos was removed from the 40-man roster to make room for him, and has been claimed off waivers by the Padres.

FDLS is 26 and made six major league appearances for the A's last season before being traded to Milwaukee in the George Kottaras deal. He made eleven appearances for AAA Nashville after the trade and posted a 1.98 ERA over 13.2 innings with 2.6 walks and 11.2 strikeouts per nine innings. Those numbers represented a significant shift from the 7.25 ERA he posted with AAA Sacramento before the trade.

Even with De Los Santos gone, the Brewers project to have 32 pitchers in camp: 22 members of the 40-man roster and ten non-roster invitees.

A few weeks ago the Brewers projected to have two De Los Santoses (De Los Santi?) in uniform in camp, and now they'll have none: Miguel De Los Santos is out until midseason or later following surgery.
