Late Night Roster Moves: Brewers Send Hunter Morris, Scooter Gennett, Four Others To Minor League Camp

USA TODAY Sports

Following last night's game against the Diamondbacks, the Brewers made another wave of spring training cuts.

I went to bed minutes after the final out of last night's game, but apparently I should've stayed up a little longer. After the game Mike Vassallo announced the latest wave of spring training cuts: Scooter Gennett, Josh Prince and Jesus Sanchez have been optioned to Nashville and Hunter Morris, Kentrail Davis and Adam Weisenburger have been returned to minor league camp.

Of all of these, Hunter Morris was probably the only one with even an outside chance to make the team out of spring training, and that was only because of the first base situation. The reigning Southern League MVP got off to a rough start this spring and ended up collecting just three hits in 25 at bats for a .120/.185/.280 line.

Scooter Gennett might be the top prospect in this group, but the diminutive second baseman really doesn't have a spot on the roster as long as Rickie Weeks is still playing most days. He hit .207/.281/.241 in 32 plate appearances this spring.

Josh Prince parlayed a hot Arizona Fall League in 2012 into a camp invite in 2013 and had some shining moments there, but not quite enough of them. He hit .138/.219/.241 over 32 PAs this spring.

There's a strong chance we'll see reliever Jesus Sanchez in a Brewer uniform again at some point this season, especially if he repeats the 1.63 ERA he posted between Huntsville and Nashville in 2012. He posted a 2.08 ERA with five strikeouts and one walk over five appearances this spring.

Former first round pick Kentrail Davis might be as low as seventh or eighth on the Brewer depth chart in the outfield at this point. He hit .105/.227/.105 in 23 PAs this spring.

Adam Weisenburger was really just in camp as an extra catcher, although his stay was probably extended by Martin Maldonado and Jonathan Lucroy's absences for the WBC. He made just five plate appearances this spring.

By my count, the Brewers' spring roster is now at 42.
