A lot of people worry about losing the #17 pick in the MLB draft. Lets look at what pitchers have been picked in the draft from 2004-2009. I didn't pick the most recent years as many have not matriculated to the MLB. Other position players are below the pitchers.
2003- Ryan Wagner, Jeff Alison, Chad Cordero
2004- Dave Purcey, Scott Elbert, Chris Lambert
2005- Lance Broadway, Chris Volstad, Cesar Carrillo, Mark Pawelek
2006- Jeremy Jeffress, Kyle Drabek, Brett Sinkbeil
2007- Blake Beavan, Joe Savery, Chris Withrow
2008- Andrew Cashner, Josh Fields, Ethan Martin
2009- Matt Purke, Alex White, Chad James, Shelby Miller, Chad Jenkins
2003- Brian Anderson, David Murphy, Brad Snyder, Conor Jackson
2004- Billy Butler, Stephen Drew, Josh Fields, Trevor Plouffe
2005- Trevor Crowe, CJ Henry, John Mayberry
2006- Travis Snider, Chris Marrero, Matt Antonelli, Chris Parmelee
2007- Jason Heyward, Devin Mesoraco, Kevin Ahrens, Pete Kozma,
2008- Aaron Hicks, Brett Lawrie, David Cooper, Ike Davis
2009- Bobby Borchering, AJ Pollock
I don't see alot of stars in that list, especially among the pitchers. There are a few top notch position players there. I guess my point is, losing the #17th pick is not too big a deal. What do you think?
