Today In Brewer History: RIP, Joe Adcock

The longtime Milwaukee Brave passed away 14 years ago today.

On this day in 1999 longtime major league first baseman Joe Adcock passed away in his hometown of Coushatta, Louisiana. He was 71 years old.

Adcock came up to the majors as a 1950 Red and played three seasons there, but joined the Braves as part of a four-team trade before the 1953 season and had his best years in Milwaukee. He appeared in 1207 games as a Brave, the fourth most of any player during the team's time in Milwaukee, and hit .285/.343/.511 with 239 home runs.

Adcock was a 1960 NL All Star and received MVP votes in four different seasons as a Brave. Following his retirement he briefly served as the manager of the 1967 Indians.

Adcock is buried in Holly Springs Cemetery in Martin, Louisiana.

With help from the B-Ref Play Index, happy birthday today to:

Today is also the seventh anniversary of the Brewers releasing one-game wonder pitcher Chris Saenz in 2006, and we covered that event in this space last year. It also would have been pitcher Red Ruffing's 108th birthday, and we discussed that in this space two years ago.
