Today In Brewer History: Happy birthday, Jed Bradley

USA TODAY Sports

The #15 overall pick in the 2011 draft turns 23 today.

On this day in 1990 Jedidiah Custer Bradley was born in Huntsville, Alabama. He was a few days shy of his 21st birthday when the Brewers made him the #15 overall pick in the 2011 draft after a collegiate career at Georgia Tech. The pick was compensation to the Brewers for having failed to sign first round pick Dylan Covey a year earlier.

Unfortunately, Bradley's early professional career is a perfect example of what can happen when draft picks wait until the last minute to sign. Bradley didn't make his professional debut until 2012 with Brevard County and struggled to make the adjustment to the professional schedule, posting a 5.53 ERA in the pitcher-friendly Florida State League.

Bradley is back in the FSL in 2013 and his numbers are starting to look up lately: He's posted a 1.89 ERA over his last three starts. If he continues on this track, a midseason promotion to his hometown of Huntsville may not be out of the question.

Thanks to Brewerfan.net for reminding me that Bradley turns 23 today. Today is also Huntsville Star Mike Walker's 25th birthday.

Today is also the 25th anniversary of Robin Yount hitting for the cycle in the Brewers' 16-2 win over the White Sox in 1988, which we covered in this space two years ago, and the sixth anniversary of the Crew getting no-hit by Justin Verlander and the Tigers in 2007, which we covered in this space last year.
