2013 MLB Draft: Brewers go with college pitchers on Day 2

A local product was among the Brewers' top selections on the second day of the MLB Draft

Rounds 3-10 of the 2013 MLB Draft were held on Friday afternoon, and the Brewers used the opportunity to stock up on collegiate pitchers. Here are today's selections:

Round 3 (#90 overall): Barrett Astin, RHP, Arkansas
Round 4 (#122 overall): Taylor Williams, RHP, Kent State
Round 5 (#152 overall): Joshua Uhen, RHP, UW-Milwaukee
Round 6 (#182 overall): Garrett Cooper, 1B, Auburn
Round 7 (#212 overall): Omar Garcia, CF, Miami Dade Community College South
Round 8 (#242 overall): Brandon Diaz, CF, American Heritage High School (Florida)
Round 9 (#272 overall): Tyler Linehan, LHP, Fresno State
Round 10 (#302 overall): Michael Ratterree, RF, Rice

This represents an interesting strategic shift from yesterday, when the Brewers took a pair of high schoolers with their second round selections. It also represents an interesting organizational shift towards pitching, with four of the team's top five picks overall going towards right handers.

This is the second time in four years the Brewers have selected an Auburn first baseman: Current Nashville first baseman Hunter Morris was selected in the fourth round in 2010. With that said, Morris is still only 24 and Cooper will be 23 in December.

Assuming he signs, Uhen will become the fifth UW-Milwaukee alum to play professional ball since 2011. He joins fellow former Panthers Chad Pierce and Eric Semmelhack in the Brewer organization.

The draft concludes with rounds 11-40 tomorrow afternoon, starting at noon.
