Ranking Milwaukee's drafts under Melvin

In this post I'm ranking Melvin's drafts based on how many players in each eventually made it to Milwaukee and how much WAR they gained (or lost) throughout their careers as a Brewer through 2012. I don't include what players have done for other teams because I wanted to see exactly how much each draft has directly impacted the Brewers.

2003

1. Weeks (17.7 WAR)

2. Gwynn Jr. (0.0)

12. Corporan (0.0)

16. Stetter (-0.3)

24. Anderson (-0.1)

Totals: 5 players, 17.3 Career Brewer WAR

2004

1. Rogers (1.0)

2. Gallardo (17.3)

5. Salome (-0.1)

17. Cain (1.1)

Totals: 4 players, 19.3 Career Brewer WAR

2005

1. Braun (30.8)

4. Gamel (-0.2)

18. Braddock (0.6)

25. Green (-0.1)

Totals: 4 players, 31.1 Career Brewer WAR

2006

1. Jeffress (0.1)

10. McClendon (0.2)

Totals: 2 players, 0.3 Career Brewer WAR

2007

3. Lucroy (5.9)

4. Farris (-0.1)

Totals: 2 players, 5.8 Career Brewer WAR

2008

3. Schafer (0.4)

Totals: 1 player, 0.4 Career Brewer WAR

2009

22. Fiers (2.6)

Totals: 1 player, 2.6 Career Brewer WAR

2010

3. Thornburg (-0.5)

Totals: 1 player, -0.5 Career Brewer WAR

Ranked by WAR: 2005, 2004, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2008, 2006, 2010

It's fair to say the Brewers' recent drafts have been less successful compared to 2003-2005. Part of this can be attributed to Melvin trading away prospects recently and the fact that some future contributors haven't had much of a career yet. But even given that, its clear to see we haven't gotten much out of 2006, 2008, and 2009 and probably never will.
