So long, Spring: Brewers close out exhibition season with 7-2 win over Royals

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Brewers won, but even better is the fact that Spring Training is finally over.

The Brewers closed out their exhibition season Saturday with a hard-fought and most-important 7-2 win over the Kansas City Royals.

Marco Estrada has been great pretty much all spring, and did not disappoint against the Royals. He pitched five shutout innings, allowing just two walks and striking out four. Estrada has won me over the last couple of years by posting great strikeout/walk numbers and really proving himself to be arguably the best pitcher on the Brewers' staff. If he can limit his home runs, he's going to surprise a lot of people. So, it's good to see him have a nice spring. Hopefully he parlays that into his best regular season yet.

Francisco Rodriguez was the only Brewers' pitcher to struggle today, allowing two runs on three hits while pitching the ninth inning.

On the hitting side, Michael Ratterree hit a solo home run in his only at-bat of the day. Rraatteerree was a 10th round draft pick last year who hit .314/.391/.585 with Helena. He certainly won't be helping the major league team this year at all, but has impressed over a short professional career, to be sure.

Logan Schafer had a nice 3-4 day, picking up a couple of RBI and scoring a run of his own. Jonathan Lucroy also plated two runs with a double.

But, hey, Spring Training is officially over! On to the good stuff!
