As a Pirates fan who enjoyed a magical 2013 season I want to extend my best wishes to the Brewers fans. For the Pirates in 2013, not only did the big league club make the playoffs - which was obviously the most exciting part of the year - but the farm system offered a cherry on top by having a fantastic year across the board. Johnny Cueto dropped a baseball, then served up a meatball for a Russell Martin homerun and Pirates prospects confirmed their elite prospect status and/or broke out to become well-regarded young players more than seemed possible. It was glorious.
The same thing seems to be happening with the Brewers. The major league squad is red-hot, and while objectively I remain skeptical to a degree (and hopefully that is not taken as an insult and is not the main point of this post at all), it's not even close to being all smoke-and-mirrors or luck. Y'all have a talented ball club. On top of that, I've noticed - I admit to being a prospect hound - that the Brewers have had a really good year thus far down on the farm. Jimmy Nelson is doing very well. I'm personally a huge fan of Tyrone Taylor who has a strong season so far. Even former first round picks Clint Coulter, Taylor Jungmann, and Jed Bradley are all managing to post great numbers.
I can't really place a finger on why I wrote this post, except to say that 2013 was a cherished summer of baseball for me, and while the Pirates and Brewers have competing interests, I genuinely am happy that others are getting to have the same feelings and experience the same fandom success I did last year. I'm a diehard Buccos fan, but first I'm a human being. As a human being, it makes me happy to know others are happy as well, so I just want to pass on my best wishes and hope that y'all really do enjoy it. Have a great summer!
