K-Rod in July

Cheer up, Buttercup. It's almost August. - Benny Sieu-USA TODAY Sports

It's hard to draw any conclusions from reliever stats, given how few innings they pitch. Still, I thought this was interesting: Over the three prior seasons, K-Rod has struggled more in July than any other month:

  • His 4.58 ERA in July from 2011-2013 is the highest of any month.
  • He's given up 23 walks in the previous three Julys. By comparison, he had surrendered only eight the past three Junes (combined) and eight the past three Augusts (combined).
  • He's been slightly more homeriffic in July than any other month.
  • He's had six blown saves the past three Julys combined, yet no more than three in any other month.

So cheer up, people: July is almost over, and his numbers start to improve as we get to August and especially September.

(And if you're still clamoring for a closer change, perhaps you need to be reminded of who else we've trotted out there over the past 14 years.)
