Making baseball more attractive

Today I stumbled upon an article by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports in which he presents what he thinks would be a great way to make baseball more attractive for a broader audience. Essentially, he says that a split season, consisting of two halves and 81 games played per half, would be a great idea since this would increase much needed competitiveness that would allow smaller market teams such as the Brewers, Rays among others to be able to be a factor more often.

And these "ideas" seem to pop up all the time, many strange and some interesting ones among them. Most of them aim to even the chances of big and small market teams to make the whole season more exciting to watch.

What strikes me though is that not one reporter, MLB official or so calles "expert" even with one word mention the idea of a "budget limit", it almost seems like they don't want to say it. And tell me if it's only me, but I feel that this would be the most effective way to make the leagues more competitive. And even if the limit is at about $150-$180 million, it would still prevent any Dodgers or Yankees from filling any given hole with high-end free agents.

Of course this will never happen as owners, investers, star players and MLB are all about the money, fan experience comes in second.

What's your take on this? I just don't see why you would just ignore the most simple way to make the game more exciting to watch, even though this is the topic they're all talking about.

PS: I'm Sorry about my sometimes shaky grammar. I'm only half American and don't currently live in the U.S. so my English gets a little rusty very quickly.
