This is fun

Baseball has the analytical side that fascinates me: If Thames continues to try to bunt against the shift will he get hits? Will teams adjust? Baseball has the technical side that intrigues me: Was it really as simple for Broxton to turn his career around by lowering his hands? Will this work for someone else?

But then baseball has its fun side. Pina's homerun and the rally it capped were pure fun. The fact that for some reason this team sometimes does special things on Mother's Day is pure fun.

Sunday was fun.

I am not (yet) on any bandwagon that this team is going to make the playoffs . I don't dismiss the terrible lack of top quality starting pitching. But on Sunday, it wasn't about projecting talent to make roster decisions. It wasn't even that the odds were stacked against the Brewers making that type of a comeback. It wasn't about the Mets need to improve their bullpen pitcher's technique so he could throw a down and away breaking ball. It was about the moment. The exhilarating moment.

And this team has the ability to reside in the fun zone. They celebrate the successes and console failure. They laugh about stupid mistakes; but seem to hold themselves and their teammates accountable. They add to the fun and because of this they seem to thrive.

No one has been able to create a formula to calculate the value of a good clubhouse. Is part of this Craig Council's managing? Is it just the team that David Stearns was able to put together? Will this all change with the first 5 game losing streak?

I don't have these answers. But I do know that this team makes things fun.

And I like fun.
