More trade talk
With just about 5 weeks to go before the trading deadline, now's a good time to get trade talks started. (I know I just did a trade poll, but I found some other links that are worth reading.) To the flip!
Here are some other thoughts as to what Carlos Lee could net in a trade. They like the Angels as a trading partner; I like the Tigers: after years of sheer putridity (I might have made that word up), the Kitties are finding themselves in first as we near the All-Star break. Even if they fade, they have an excellent chance to reach the postseason, and the Tigers fans won't forgive the team if they don't go for it this season. I don't have any specifics, but I assume that they should have piles and piles of prospects after so many last place finishes.
However, I just have me, and other sites are pushing the Halos and even the Giants as potential suitors.
Who says we can't have both? This is the lowest form of rumor --- a post on a BLOG, for the love of Winky --- but I'd think this would make a lot of people in Cream City happy:
In Detroit we're accustomed to trade rumors, but it is more other teams looking to add for their playoff runs. Now the reports are coming out that Dave Dombrowski is asking about Carl Crawford, Aubrey Huff, Livan Hernandez, Alfonso Soriano, Geoff Jenkins, and a whole host of other players. I wouldn't expect anything less from a general manager. I'm just not expecting a trade anytime soon.Fun to think about. Go Crew!

I agree that we're good enough...
The BP postseason odds report says the average NL WC winner is at 88 wins...that's definitely reachable. Then again, the BP report hasn't seen a bunch of WC contenders make midseason deals. We shall see...

Yankees/Tigers
Combine this with Melvin's terse denial of Yankee interest ("No."), and you have an interesting situation.
Also interesting are the Detroit scenarios. The Tigers look to be in a dogfight with the White Sox all season long and certainly have the arms that the Brewers crave--like Jeff said, Joel Zumaya would look pretty good in a Brewers uniform. With J.J. Hardy potentially done for the year, throw in Omar Infante as middle infield backup and you might have a deal. I don't think Melvin would do Zumaya for Lee straight up.
On MLB Trade Rumors, the guy thinks the Cardinals and Angels are the most likely destinations, but I disagree. Yes, the Angels have the prospects to make a major deal, and yes, they need power, but they're not going to compete this year and are therefore not going to make a deadline deal. They may very well sign Lee in the offseason, however. For the Cards, John Rodriguez and Juan Encarnacion aren't very scary corner outfielders, but St. Louis just got Pujols back. With their pitching in arrears, adding a fourth major bat is probably not their primary concern.
