9/30 Game Thread: Brewers (Spoiling) at Cardinals (Salvaging)

I'm calling it: Ben Sheets is going to throw a shutout today.  What's more, the Brewers are going to score 5 runs off of Jeff Suppan.  Sheets will strike out Pujols at least twice, and Prince Fielder will hit a home run.

Because FOX and MLB are fascists sometimes, the game is at 12:25, and if you want to watch it, you'll have to suffer through the babbling of national announcers who shall remain nameless.  (If only they would remain voicebox-less.)

Go spoiler Brewers!

Actually
Isn't Sutton calling the game on Fox with Lou Piniella?

by battlekow on Sep 30, 2006 11:38 AM CDT reply actions

I heard
...they were going to replace Sutton with Hideo Nomo.
"C'mon, boys, let's get 'em some RUNS!" --- Daron Sutton, pretty much every game of the 2005 season.

by roguejim on Sep 30, 2006 11:45 AM CDT up reply actions

That's crazy talk
Everyone knows Nomo's delivery isn't suitable for Western audiences.

by battlekow on Sep 30, 2006 11:48 AM CDT up reply actions

Speaking of...
"Sheets will strike out Pujols at least twice."

In the entire month of April 2004, Pujols struck out five times; once on Opening Day (the 5th) against Ben Sheets, then not again until the 23rd, when he struck out twice against Matt Kinney (!), then once two days later, again vs. Sheets. Not until April 30th against the Cubs did Pujols strike out against a non-Brewer.

Today Reds fans and Brewers fans
can come together for a common purpose: beating unimaginative sports cities.  St. Louis named both its baseball AND football team the Cardinals.  Pittsburgh has three professional sports teams, and only two colors for all of them.  So here's to beating the Deadbirds, and here's to beating the Black and Gold!

Wow
That's Jenkins' first hit since the walkoff homer. And Sutton is an asshole for saying Jenkins should have been platooned and not benched, keeping in mind that the guy he would have been platooned with was Corey Hart.

We shouldn't
Sheets, Capuano, Bush, and Davis will all be back...and we have at least two young pitchers (Villanueva and Eveland) who really deserve a shot to be #5, plus Yovani Gallardo should be ready by the all-star break, along with a few other guys who will start the year at AAA.

Does that mean Doug Melvin won't try...I don't know.  Maddux is a possibility.

by Jeff Sackmann on Sep 30, 2006 1:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Please no
I'm still high on Dana Eveland.

by battlekow on Sep 30, 2006 1:51 PM CDT up reply actions

by battlekow on Sep 30, 2006 2:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Since they're in the AL, it's not huge, but when the teams play each other, it always sells out.  Baseball loyalty throughout the state is pretty divided though.

But Cleveland's river caught on fire.  Politically, Cleveland is pretty Democratic (lots of unions up there), and Cincy goes Republican.  Cleveland's sports teams always lose, while Cincy's sports teams only mostly lose.

Hoegaarden
I'm really into wheat beer right now.

by Red Menace on Sep 30, 2006 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Hmmm
No Hoegaarden available in Milwaukee. It's been out for about three months now. Something about a strike in Belgium.

by battlekow on Sep 30, 2006 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions

Who cares
As long as we have the St. Bernardus 60th Anniversary quad.

by battlekow on Sep 30, 2006 2:43 PM CDT up reply actions

i bar near work
has hoegaarden on tap.  they aren't out of it.  maybe because it's six bucks for a pint.

Bill Hall has not been living up to his All-Star
status.  I guess it's not enough to see red on the other team's uniform.

hey gang
Just wanted to say, hey.  I can't watch today.  Too nerve racking.  I'm out again, don't let the Brewers lead end.  Any Brew Crew Ball people want to go to Pittsburgh with us tomorrow??

Cassano's is good.
There was one on the end of my street when I lived at UD.  Ate their at least once a week.  They are the only place that doesn't serve 'sausage' on their pizza in the form of little kibbles.

by Gapper on Sep 30, 2006 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions

I hate Marion's.
Huge rip off.  They charge you up the ass for a pizza served on cardboard which they don't even bring to your table.  And should you want a beverage....that will be a dollar for twelve ounces, no refunds.  No thanks!

by Gapper on Sep 30, 2006 2:48 PM CDT up reply actions

But the slices are itty bitty
Also I just went there for so many pizza parties after soccer seasons that it's basically a nostalgia thing.

by Brendanukkah on Sep 30, 2006 2:51 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah, me too
we always went after softball or soccer games.

Gotta Roll
Be Cool, Brew Crew nation. No doubt Arroyo wins tonight, if the game isn't rained out.

I'd consider starting with game with relievers. No sense burning BA on a rainout

I'm channeling Bill Schroeder
C'mon Crew --- try not to do too much with it, use an inside-out swing, hit it to the opposite field.

Still in all, we can win this.

"C'mon, boys, let's get 'em some RUNS!" --- Daron Sutton, pretty much every game of the 2005 season.
