Wednesday reading
A bunch of stuff for you to read, enjoy, and then come back and report on:
- Here's my column today at the Hardball Times. It's on Steve Garvey, who's not a Hall of Famer, but may be closer than you think.
- Here's more Lederer on categorizing relievers. Turns out Greg Aquino profiles very well by GB% and K rate. Better, I think, than his more common stats (ERA, etc.) would suggest. That, by the way, is a good thing.
- The Brewers are getting a DVD. It comes out in April, and it's about--what else--the 1982 team.
- Lyle Overbay might be getting a long term deal from the Jays.

They're kidding, right?
If that's a harbinger of celebrations of the 1982 team to come, then I don't know if I can afford to relive the glory days.

Sweet merciful crap
On the other hand, I saw someone in a Brewers forum proclaim that Koskie is going to have a breakout year in 2007 -- .280 AVG, 21 HR, 80-90 RBI*. So we've got that going for us, which is nice.
*vs. CHONE projections of .238, 14 HR, 42 RBI, if you're into such things.

.238!?!
So then...is Tony G our starting third baseman? Is Billy? That's weird. You'd think Doug would at least be talking about a backup plan.

Depends on who you talk to
Terrence_Neumann: What does the depth chart look like behind Corey Koskie? If Koskie goes down for an extended period of time, would Ryan Braun get a shot?
Melvin: Graffanino and Counsell could platoon if Koskie was unable to play. But we will also take a long look at Ryan Braun in Spring Training.
Or Melvin 11.29:
But Melvin revealed on Wednesday that should Koskie have any major setbacks, the team would hand the third-base job to top prospect Ryan Braun.

Wow
That's really surprising, given that Braun has played all of two months in AA.
