I just don't understand Ned
But what is new.  Guys gets called up from AAA not only does he start but he leads off.  With Fielder and Braun hitting 3 and 4 really all our top two hitters should be doing is trying to get on base however possible.  With this lineup we have a .321 OBP followed by a .323 OBP.  If Counsell wasn't struggling so much I wouldn't mind seeing him at the top of the lineup.

by dixieflatline on Aug 15, 2007 5:03 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed on Counsell
He'd understand what his role was at the top.  He'd still hit .250 or so in that slot, but I bet he'd push his OBP up pretty quickly in that slot.

That said, I'll take Hart at the top of the lineup.  I just wonder what Brewer fan slowed Gross down in security to keep him out of the leadoff spot tonight.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Aug 15, 2007 7:23 PM CDT up reply actions

here's what i don't get..
hardy was doing so well in the 8 spot--so why move him?

Ouch
with this lineup he should hit Yovani 8th like some other manager...

it changed
Hart is in now.  Where?  Not a clue.

hart is now batting leadoff...
i still wish hardy was batting 8th, but i'm a bit happier

Apparently
The only reason Gross isn't batting lead off is because his plane was late.

Albert cheats
he puts his back leg behind the line.

by baseballdan1092 on Aug 15, 2007 7:16 PM CDT reply actions

Absolutely not.
:)

But I've noticed it out of enough hitters (including some current and recently former Brewers) that it seems to be a widespread tactic.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Aug 15, 2007 7:25 PM CDT up reply actions

Case in point:
BA just commented on the fact that Ryan Braun had his back foot in pretty much the same spot as Pujols.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Aug 15, 2007 7:27 PM CDT up reply actions

braun
had it on the line. Albert had it behind the line.

by baseballdan1092 on Aug 15, 2007 7:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Me & my dad
used to discuss this all the time when I was little.

It wound up being one of those "Everybody does it, deal with it" situations.

So, I'd try to go kick the chalk off the back line before little league games.  I was pimpin' it.

Off Topic
But it's going to be very interesting to see what our rotation looks like next season.  I just hope Parra and Gallardo's arms survive the major increase in innings from 2006-2007.

Assuming good health for all involved:

Sheets, Gallardo, Suppan, Capuano, Parra?

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Aug 15, 2007 7:19 PM CDT reply actions

I really hope Capuano can return to form
It'd be good if we get last year's Capuano next year instead of this year's, but I don't know if you can count on it. They'll definitely have a huge selection of arms to choose from.

by warwick5s on Aug 15, 2007 7:22 PM CDT up reply actions

well
he hit some ball hard this inning, its only a matter of time before the bats break out, hell if billy is hitting homeruns, then the rest of the guys can't be far behind

my enthusiasm for this team
is plunging by the day.
Weird, but not weird.

by Jeff Sackmann on Aug 15, 2007 8:06 PM CDT reply actions

I keep thinking that at some point
we have to catch some breaks for a few days in a row.  That we have to get hot again.  But the longer we go without that happening, the less likely it seems.  Not to say there haven't been some high points over the last month or so.  There have, but they just never seem to string them together, and because of the kind of team they are (sporadic defense, home run dependent offense) they're hard to watch when they're losing.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Aug 15, 2007 8:11 PM CDT up reply actions

why
am i gonna waste my time watching this team.

by baseballdan1092 on Aug 15, 2007 8:19 PM CDT reply actions

I feel like watching the Brewers these days is just a waste of my time, I am sick of these no name pitchers giving up nothing against us

wow
when the brewers are batting the inning goes by so fast....I thought we were suppose to play good at home, what ever happen to that. Did everyone forget we only play shitty on the road?

by Bigdogg2002 on Aug 15, 2007 8:28 PM CDT reply actions

Well it is already 5-1
If they add anymore this inning it is going to be near impossible to win.  Have to hold them here and pray the top of the order can do something.

The Cards are really playing well. Hate to say it, but it's hard to find any mistakes (under the pitch to Hall) tonight.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Aug 15, 2007 8:38 PM CDT reply actions

So I know Gallardo just hit 100 pitches....
... but it seems odd to hook him with 2 out in the 6th when you're down 6 runs and showing 0 life at the plate anyway.

by Ted Simmons Speed Camp on Aug 15, 2007 8:42 PM CDT reply actions

I'm confused
If we're so concerned with Gallardo's arm, why was he in there so long on a night he clearly didn't have it?

Jorgensen
He was a Cubs draft pick way back in the day but still begs the question, where do all these emergency catchers go between their 4 at bat seasons in the majors? Speaking of catchers whose major league experience was few and far between, Tim Laker is retired now and managing the Indians' NYPL team -- that's kind of sad and cool at the same time. Alright, I'm done waxing nostalgic now.

I love the very idea
that there are caps lock "people"

maybe that's why karl rove left the white house--he got an offer from the caps lock people that he couldn't refuse.

Well sure
Typing in all caps is considered an computing no-no, yet every keyboard has a CAPS LOCK key.  The only reason that makes any sense is a CAPS LOCK lobby.

I also have suspicions about the vertical bar (|) as well.  What is this, UNIX?

I thought Rove left because thre was a puppy in Texas who was rumored to have been unkicked.  That's what Rambling Al says, anyway.  :)
