Milwaukee Brewers to offer opportunity for fans to buy cutouts at Miller Park

99

The Milwaukee Brewers have joined the cavalcade of baseball franchises that are offering fans the opportunity to purchase a "cutout" to fill a seat at their otherwise empty stadium during the 2020 regular season. For $50, fans can submit a photo to appear on a cutout that will be stationed in the upper deck of the Miller Park seating bowl. A portion of the proceeds will go towards benefiting the Brewers Community Foundation. The "Cutout Crew" sale begins tomorrow, July 2nd.

Milwaukee Milkmen, American Association release 2020 schedule

1

While Rob Manfred stated earlier today that it's no longer certain that MLB will take the field in 2020, the independent American Association announced their return to play on Friday and this afternoon released their official schedule for this summer's shortened regular season. Beginning on July 3rd, the six active AA teams will play 60 games over the course of 10 weeks, with six game days per week and every Monday off. Each team will play 42 of their games at their assigned "pod" -- 30 as the "home" team 12 as the "away" team. Our local Milwaukee Milkmen are sharing the Ballpark Commons in Franklin with the Chicago Dogs. The Cream City's indy ball nine will also make trips to Sioux Falls, SD to face the Sioux Falls Canaries and St. Paul Saints as well as Fargo, North Dakota to meet the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and the Winnipeg Goldeye. Opening Day will be during Independence Day weekend on July 3rd with the Milkmen versus the Dogs. The season will culminate with the top two teams meeting in a best-of-five series for the American Association Championship beginning on September 10th. The American Association is partnering with Baseballism to present "The return of live baseball in a safe and fun environment this summer – For Love of the Game!" As a reminder, the league's dispersement draft takes place on the afternoon of June 16th, and the Milkmen hold the first pick. Players report to training camp beginning on June 25th to prepare for the season.

Milwaukee Brewers release statement on the death of George Floyd

41

The Milwaukee Brewers have followed along with many other brands and businesses by putting out a statement of support to George Floyd and those who have been victims of racism. The club says that they will work with their partners and community members to help create real change. The statement does not specifically mention the issue of police brutality and how it relates to George Floyd's death, which has sparked nationwide protests.

Milwaukee Brewers release at least 30 minor league players

5

On Thursday, it was reported that the Milwaukee Brewers would continue to pay the $400 weekly stipend to their minor league players through at least the end of June, but that bit of news was accompanied by the fact that the club would be releasing a high volume of players. Thanks to the venerable Jim Goulart of Brewerfan.net and his thorough combing of both social media and the MiLB transactions page, we have a list of at least 30 players who have been cut so far. Many of these players were lower down on rosters in the Arizona League and Dominican Summer League, but some more notable names included in the bloodletting are Andres Blanco, Pat McInerny, Karsen Lindell, and Carlos Herrera. You can click the link to find the full list as well as a blurb about each player.

Wisconsin Timber Rattlers offering Take-Out Dinners on May 6 & Mother's Day

3

The Timber Rattlers are trying to keep some of the spirit of the baseball season going as baseball games are still cancelled in the current pandemic. One of their current promotions going on is take-out dinners offered on specific days. The first was on April 28 and had plenty of demand, so the Timber Rattlers have added two other days. The next one is on May 6 and is a dinner for four for $40 that includes brats, burgers, hot bad, and other picnic/ballpark foods. A grab bag is also offered for $20 with various merchandise & vouchers. They are also offering a Mother's Day dinner for four for $65 that features cranberry orange chicken and amber ale beef tenderloin tips (with a bottle of wine available for an extra $13). If you are in the area near the Timber Rattlers, you can go to their website to check out the deal and order one.

Seattle Mariners claim Taylor Williams off waivers from Milwaukee Brewers

13

Earlier today, Taylor Williams was claimed off of waivers from the Brewers by the Mariners. Williams had been designated for assignment after the Brewers signed Brock Holt earlier this week. Wiliams posted a 5.23 ERA and 3.86 FIP over parts of 3 seasons for the Brewers. He pitched in 56 games in 2018 and posted a 4.25 ERA and 3.95 FIP, but only made 12 MLB appearances in 2019 with a 9.82 ERA and 3.90 FIP. His numbers in San Antonio were better (2.83 ERA), and had been granted a fourth option this offseason. The Brewers had hoped to get him through waivers, but he'll get a chance to make the roster now in the Mariners camp. (Statistics courtesy of Baseball-Reference)

Josh Lindblom to start Cactus League opener for Milwaukee Brewers

39

David Stearns handed out the longest starting pitcher contract of his tenure during the most recent offseason, a three-year deal for KBO import Josh Lindblom. It turns out that fans won't have to wait long to get their first taste of him in action. Manager Craig Counsell announced earlier today that Lindblom would toe the slab on the opening day of Cactus League play, which comes on Saturday on the road in Surprise against the Rangers. Lindblom won the equivalent of the Korean League's MVP and Cy Young awards last year, finishing with a 2.50 ERA across 194.2 innings for the Doosan Bears. (Statistics courtesy of Baseball-Reference)

Pat Connaughton dunks over Christian Yelich in the Slam Dunk Contest

Brewers fans have to be saying "phew" after that was successfully completed.

Philadelphia Phillies claim Deolis Guerra off waivers from Milwaukee Brewers

28

The Phillies announced earlier today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Deolis Guerra off outright waivers from the Brewers. Guerra was designated for assignment on January 30th to make room on the 40-man roster for David Phelps. Guerra, 31 in April, had one disastrous big league appearance for Milwaukee in 2019 but was outstanding at the Triple-A level. He totaled 66.2 innings across 45 appearances for the San Antonio Missions with a 1.89 ERA and 11.9 K/9 versus only 2.2 BB/9. Those strong totals convinced the Brewers to sign Guerra to an MLB contract after he left via minor league free agency, and they obviously weren't the only club who felt he was worthy of a 40-man roster spot. Guerra is out of minor league options and will have to win a spot on Philadelphia's Opening Day 26-man roster or be exposed to waivers again before the season starts.
