BR Longform article on Bubba Derby

The story of Bubba's experience with the Las Vegas shooting last October and its aftermath. Not a happy read, but a very good read.

Jeremy Jeffress day-to-day with neck spasms

2

Many Milwaukee Brewers fans panicked when they didn't see their closer warming up to finish out tonight's St. Louis Cardinals game. Thankfully, Corey Knebel closed the game out to secure the win, and we found out that Jeremy Jeffress (hopefully) doesn't have a severe injury holding him out. Jeffress has been dealing with neck spasms that are keeping him from the game. He is day-to-day but it doesn't sound like anything the team is concerned about at this point.

Christian Yelich named NL Player of the Week for a third time

13

If you're hoping to gain MVP hype, being named your league's top player for the past week three times -- and twice in the past month -- is one way to get that national attention.

Yelich hit .545/.615/1.0981 for a 1.706 OPS in the past week, with 12 hits (including 4 doubles, a triple and 2 home runs), 2 stolen bases, and 7 runs scored.

In case you were wondering, Javier Baez hit .261/.320/.696 for a 1.016 OPS in the past week, with 6 hits (including 1 double, no triples, and 3 home runs), no stolen bases, and 4 runs scored.

Sometimes the award comes down to who finishes the year the hottest, influencing the voters' final memories of the season. Just ask Matt Kemp in 2011.

A great article about two of the nice guys

Brewers trade Aaron Brooks to Oakland; outright Jake Thompson

8

The Milwaukee Brewers announced a couple of minor transactions during today's game against the Cubs. First was the news that Aaron Brooks, who was DFA'd just prior to September call ups before throwing a pitch with Milwaukee, has been traded to the Athletics. Brooks spent half a season with Oakland in 2015 and posted a 6.71 ERA in 51.0 innings. This season for Milwaukee's AAA affiliate, Brooks posted a 3.35 ERA with a 74:28 K/BB ratio in 99.1 innings. In addition to the loss of Brooks, the club announced that DFA'd hurler Jake Thompson has been outrighted to Colorado Springs and will stay with the organization. The 24 year old former top prospect joined the franchise in a cash transaction with the Phillies in the middle of August. (Statistics courtesy of Baseball-Reference)

Report: Keon Broxton among Milwaukee Brewers' September call-ups

13

It appears that Keon Broxton is headed back to the big leagues. The lovable outfielder tweeted that fans were showing him support on a plane ride to D.C. It doesn't take a lot of deduction to figure out that this means Keon is joining the Brewers. Broxton will likely serve as a defensive replacement and base runner in late, but close, games.

Report: Milwaukee Brewers call up Jacob Nottingham and Domingo Santana

15

Robert Murray is reporting that catcher Jacob Nottingham and outfielder Domingo Santana will be the team's first September call-up. Nottingham had been on the Colorado Springs Sky Sox DL until yesterday. He had three at-bats before being removed. The Brewers need help behind the plate, especially with Manny Piña recovering from being hit in the face a few days ago. Santana can provide a decent bat off the bench while being able to fill in in the outfield on occasion. He hit .283/.401/.487 during his time at AAA with eight homers.

Milwaukee Brewers DFA Aaron Brooks and Jake Thompson to clear way for new acquisitions

12

The Milwaukee Brewers announced that they have DFAd RHP Aaron Brooks and RHP Jake Thompson to make room on the 40-man roster for Gio Gonzalez and Curtis Granderson. Brooks has been on the 40-man for... *checks watch* one day. He was just added to bring pitching support up to the big league roster after a round of extra inning games and short starts from the starters. He didn't throw during his two games on the roster. Milwaukee traded for Thompson on August 14, sending money to the Philadelphia Phillies. He has made a few appearances at AAA since being acquired.

Brewers reinstate Joakim Soria from 10-day DL

1

Prior to tonight's game, the Brewers reinstated reliever Joakim Soria from the 10-day DL. Soria was placed on the 10-day DL on August 10 after straining his groin in a relief appearance against the Padres. Soria ended up missing two weeks, a little more than the minimum. He threw a bullpen session and batting practice recently and did not go on a rehab assignment. Acquired a few days before the trade deadline, Soria has made only seven appearances for the Brewers so far, posting a 1.59 ERA as a Brewer and a 2.44 ERA on the season overall.

Brewers will not acquire Matt Harvey as Reds pull him back

60

The Brewers search for a starting pitcher will continue. After reports came out that the Brewers "won" the waiver claim for Matt Harvey earlier today, the two teams could not come to terms on a deal. Rather than save money, the Reds decided to hold on to Harvey and try to "gain positive momentum for our club". The Brewers will now move on to other potential waiver deadline trades. Meanwhile, Matt Harvey will face the Cubs this afternoon, and the Brewers won't be too sad about missing out on Harvey. As Jaymes noted earlier, his stats for his time with the Reds: 4.28 ERA/4.50 FIP/4.57 DRA.
