Game Thread #65: Brewers (33-31) at Astros (33-32)

Tonight it's Manny Parra against Brandon Backe.  Last time those two squared off, Parra pitched well and the Brewers got the win.  But that was at Miller Park, while the Juice Box may be the least LHP-friendly park in the majors.

I'm going to try this again, since it worked so well last time: The Brewers won't suck tonight.  I promise.

Game time is 7:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview.

Go Brewers!

Game Thread #55: Astros (30-25) at Brewers (26-28)

If you had told me during spring training that, two months into the season, the Astros would be comfortably ahead of the Crew in the standings, I wouldn't have believed it.  Presumably Lance Berkman will stop OPS'ing a gazillion, and the Astros will drift back to .500...by which point, I hope, the Brewers will no longer be below that mark.

The pitching matchup tonight is Brandon Backe and Manny Parra.  Game time is 7:05 CT, and here's the BR Game Preview

Game Thread #30: Brewers (16-13) at Astros (14-16)

With the short left-field porch at Minute Maid, tonight was supposed to be the night when the righties teed off on the Brewers (left-handed) starting pitcher.  We got that out of the way yesterday, so I think Parra is set up for a great outing.  Brandon Backe will try to contain the Brewers offense, but we're just too gritty.

Game time is 6:05 CT.  Here's the BR Game Preview.  Also, check out this hilarious post at the SBN Twins site.

Project-a-tron has tonight as an absolute dead heat: 49.95% chance of the Brewers winning.  Mr. Tron, however, is not aware of grit, dwarf or otherwise.

Go Brewers!

Brew Crew Ball is made with whole grains and contains bits of real grit. It's the perfect dessert for a playoff berth that's been in the crock pot for 26 years. Guaranteed to enhance your sarcasm and sense of irony!

Now that it's over, how will you remember the Brewers' season?
  • A rousing success. They made the playoffs, something they hadn't done since before many bloggers here were born.
  • Mostly satisfying. If you'd told me 90 wins and a playoff berth at the beginning of the year, I'd have taken it, but the limp the finish took some of the sparkle off.
  • Great on its own, but downgraded after accouting for context; with Sabathia and Sheets most likely having thrown their last pitch for the team, the Brewers may have blown their golden opportunity.
  • I'm left feeling unfulfilled. I think the team was capable of a lot more than it showed. With a healthy Sheets, who knows how far they go?
  • They're the crappiest bunch of crap that ever crapped.
