Fall/Winter League Update for 11/3/2009

In Arizona: Lorenzo Cain went 0-for-4 with a walk and scored a run in the Javelinas' 6-4 win over Scottsdale. Zach Braddock pitched a perfect ninth with one strikeout to pick up his second save, and Omar Aguilar pitched the seventh, allowing a run on a hit and two walks.

Fall/Winter League Update for 11/2/2009

In Arizona: On Friday, Jonathan Lucroy went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the Javelinas' 5-4 win over PhoenixLorenzo Cain went 1-for-3 with two walks in the game, scored a run, stole a base and was caught stealing.

On Saturday, Taylor Green went 1-for-4 with a walk and scored a run in the Javelinas' 12-5 win over Surprise. Rob Wooten pitched a scoreless third inning, allowing no hits and one walk while striking out two. Mark Rogers allowed a run on a hit and a walk in the fifth.

Overall:

  • Lorenzo Cain is hitting .214/.365/.262 in 42 at bats.
  • Taylor Green is hitting .188/.350/.188 in 32 at bats.
  • Jonathan Lucroy is hitting .385/.407/.615 in 26 at bats.
  • Zach Braddock has posted a 1.17 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 5:3 K:BB ratio in 7.2 innings.
  • Josh Butler has a 14.09 ERA, 3.13 WHIP and 7:5 K:BB ratio in 7.2 innings.
  • Omar Aguilar has a 7.36 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 8:3 K:BB ratio in 7.1 innings.
  • Mark Rogers has a 12.27 ERA, 2.45 WHIP and 5:8 K:BB ratio in 7.1 innings.
  • Rob Wooten has a 9.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 4:1 K:BB ratio in 3 innings.

In Venezuela:

  • Alcides Escobar made his VWL debut on Friday for Lara, and went 3-for-13 with a stolen base, two strikeouts and a caught stealing over the weekend.
  • Adam Heether went 0-for-8 with two walks and scored twice for Caracas. He's now hitting .214/.389/.371 in 70 VWL ABs.
  • Hernan Iribarren went 2-for-12 over the weekend with a solo home run and two runs scored for Lara. He's hitting .286/.345/.416 in 77 ABs
  • Brendan Katin went 1-for-9 over the weekend with a double and a run for Zulia. He's hitting .209/.321/.372 in 43 ABs.
  • Juan Sanchez went 0-for-2 with a walk and an RBI Friday. He's hitting .091/.214/.182 in 11 ABs.

In Mexico: David Welch allowed two runs on eight hits and three walks over six innings against Mochis on Saturday, striking out seven. He has a 3.77 ERA over three starts (14.1 innings) for Guasave, with a 1.74 WHIP and a 16:7 K/BB ratio.

In the Dominican Republic: Results are from Thursday-Saturday.

  • Erick Almonte went 1-for-7 with a strikeout for Cibao. He's hitting .275/.396/.375 in 40 ABs.
  • Sam Narron allowed two runs on four hits and a walk in six innings for Cibao on Saturday, striking out four. He has a 3.68 ERA with a 1.23 ERA and 6:6 K:BB ratio in 14.2 innings.
  • Juan Sandoval faced two batters and retired both on Friday for Oriente, striking out one. In six DWL appearances spanning five innings, he's posted a 1.80 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 3:0 K/BB ratio.
  • Rafael Lluberes faced three batters on Friday for Cibao and allowed them all to reach, allowing three earned runs on two hits and a walk. Lluberes has appeared in six games but collected just one inning's worth of outs, allowing a 36.00 ERA, 6.00 WHIP and 1:3 K:BB ratio.

Fall/Winter League Update for 10/30/2009

In Arizona: Lorenzo Cain went 2-for-4 and drove in two of the Javelinas' 3 runs in their 3-2 victory over Mesa. Cain also stole a base and was picked off. Taylor Green started at third base and went 0-for-2. Zach Braddock pitched two perfect innings to pick up his first save and lower his AFL ERA to 1.17.

In Venezuela:

  • Adam Heether went 1-for-2, walked twice, scored a run and drove in another in Caracas' 8-5 win over La Guaira.
  • Hernan Iribarren went 0-for-4 with an RBI in Lara's 7-6, 12 inning loss to Caribes. Ryan Houston blew the save for Lara for the second straight day, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk in .2 innings. Houston has now allowed four runs on six baserunners in his first 1.1 innings, but has struck out every batter he's retired.

In the Dominican Republic:

  • Erick Almonte went 2-for-3 and drove in a run in Cibao's 12-3 loss to Oriente.
  • Juan Sandoval pitched a scoreless inning in the game, allowing one hit.

Fall/Winter League Update for 10/29/2009

In Arizona: Three Brewer pitchers got shelled and allowed all eleven runs in the Javelinas' 11-6 loss to Phoenix. Josh Butler, attempting to bounce back from strep throat, started and allowed six runs on eight hits and two walks in three innings. He was followed to the mound by Rob Wooten, who allowed three runs on three hits in one inning (and had an error on a pickoff throw). Omar Aguilar finished off the game by allowing two runs on four hits and a walk in two innings of work, but did get three strikeouts.

Both Butler and Aguilar also allowed home runs to AFL phenom Grant Desme, who is batting .469/.544/1.143 in 49 ABs with ten home runs. He's on pace for 23 homers: the AFL record is 14.

In Venezuela:

  • Adam Heether went 1-for-3 with a walk and drove in a run in Caracas' 6-3 loss to Magallanes.
  • Brendan Katin went 1-for-4 and struck out three times in Zulia's 7-1 loss to Aragua.
  • Ryan Houston got roughed up a bit in his VWL debut, allowing two runs on three hits (one home run) in .2 innings of work, picking up a blown save and a loss in Lara's 9-8 loss to Caribes.
  • The only VWL game with no Brewers in it was probably the game of the day: La Guaira's 18-17 win over Margarita.

In the Dominican Republic: Erick Almonte went 1-for-4, scored a run and struck out twice in Cibao's 4-3, 10 inning loss to Aguilas on Tuesday.

Fall/Winter League Update for 10/28/2009

In Arizona: Mark Rogers pitched 1.1 innings in relief and allowed two earned runs on two hits and three walks, throwing two wild pitches and striking out just one. The Bats picked him up, however, and the Javelinas outscored Scottsdale, 10-9. Lorenzo Cain went 0-for-4, but drew two walks and scored twice. He's hitting .171/.326/.229 in AFL play.

In Venezuela: Adam Heether went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts and scored a run in Caracas' 5-4 win over Lara. Hernan Iribarren went 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored and a fielding error for Lara, and Freddy Parejo entered the game in the eighth inning as a pinch runner but did not score.

Fall/Winter League Update for 10/27/2009

In Arizona: Lorenzo Cain, Jonathan Lucroy and Taylor Green combined to go 0-for-10 as the Javelinas won a rare AFL pitcher's duel, 2-1 over Surprise. Zach Braddock was the only Peoria pitcher to allow a run, giving up two hits and two walks in one inning, striking out two.

In the Dominican Republic: On Sunday, Sam Narron allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks in four innings, but the bats picked him up and Cibao beat Oriente anyway, 13-5. Erick Almonte went 2-for-5 with a double, scored a run and drove one in. Juan Sandoval pitched .1 innings for Oriente, and allowed two runs (one earned) on a hit.

Fall/Winter League Update for 10/26/2009

In Arizona: Mark Rogers started on Friday and struggled, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks in two innings as the Javelinas lost to Scottsdale 8-7. Zach Braddock pitched another scoreless inning to maintain his perfect ERA. Lorenzo Cain went 0-for-2 with a walk, and Taylor Green went 0-for-3 with a walk.

On Saturday, Rob Wooten and Omar Aguilar each pitched scoreless innings but the offense didn't do its part, as they were shut out by the Saguaros, 6-0. Jonathan Lucroy started at DH and went 1-for-2, and Taylor Green was held hitless at third for the second straight day, going 0-for-4.

The AFL is off on Sundays. With this weekend's action, here's a look at the Brewers' stat lines:

  • In 27 ABs, Lorenzo Cain is hitting .222/.364/.296.
  • In 23 ABs, Taylor Green is hitting .217/.400/.217.
  • In 19 ABs, Jonathan Lucroy is hitting .421/.450/.579.
  • In 5.1 innings, Omar Aguilar has posted a 6.75 ERA with a 5/2 K/BB ratio.
  • In 5 innings, Mark Rogers has posted a 12.60 ERA with a 3/4 K BB ratio.
  • In 4.2 innings, Zach Braddock has yet to allow a run with a 3/1 K/BB ratio.
  • In 4.2 innings, Josh Butler has posted a 11.57 ERA with a 5/3 K/BB ratio.

In Venezuela:

  • Adam Heether went 1-for-9 over the weekend with three walks and a home run. He's hitting .241/.397/.444 in 54 ABs for Caracas.
  • Hernan Iribarren went 6-for-11 with two doubles, a walk, five runs scored, a stolen base and a caught stealing. He's hitting .333/.397/.456 in 57 ABs for Lara, but is just 2-for-5 in stolen base attempts.
  • Freddy Parejo went 1-for-3 with a strikeout over the weekend for Lara. He's now 3-for-7 in AFL play.
  • Juan Sanchez entered Saturday's game as a pinch runner and defensive replacement for Aragua, but was removed before he got to bat.

In the Dominican Republic: A day behind again, so all results are from Thursday-Saturday.

  • Erick Almonte went 2-for-7 for Cibao with a walk. He's hitting .238/.448/.381 in 21 ABs.
  • Rafael Lluberes struck out the only batter he faced on Thursday, and hit the only batter he faced on Friday. That runner eventually scored. He's allowed one run for Cibao in one inning of work, spanning five outings.

In Mexico: David Welch was a tough luck loser last night for Guasave, allowing one run in five innings on five hits and two walks, striking out six. The outing lowered his LMP ERA to 4.32.

Fall/Winter League Update for 10/23/2009

In Arizona: Josh Butler started for the Javelinas and allowed three runs on six hits in 2.2 innings, but still picked up the win over 2009 #1 pick Stephen Strasburg, who allowed eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits (three home runs) in 2.2 innings. The Javelinas won the game, 9-6. Taylor Green went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and scored a run, Jonathan Lucroy went 1-for-4 and scored a run, and Lorenzo Cain went 1-for-5, struck out twice, was caught stealing and picked off.

Butler is now 2-0 despite posting an 11.57 ERA in his first two AFL outings.

In Venezuela:

In the Dominican Republic:

On Wednesday, Sam Narron made his first DWL start, allowing two earned runs on five hits and a walk in four innings and picking up the loss as Cibao fell to Licey, 4-1. Erick Almonte started the game at DH, batted cleanup and went 1-for-3 with a walk.

On Thursday, Almonte went 0-for-3 with two walks and scored a run in Cibao's 3-2 win over Este.
