Prognostikeggers

Progostikeggers NLCS Summary

The Brewers postseason is over.  With that, the season of Prognostikeggers has come to an end.

To finish up the season with the NLCS, guayzimi finished with the win.  It was a convincing win, as he finished with six points more than the three-way tie of Capt Science, Dulzy, and GoldenFrank.  He scored at least one point a day, and at least four points in five of the six days.  That was more than enough to get the win.

I hope you all enjoyed this season of Prognostikeggers.  Congratulations to all of the winners this year, and thank you everyone for participating in the competition.  This wouldn't have been possible without your daily predictions and participation.  It's time to relax a little.  I'll be around during the offseason, probably writing something here and there.  Check back next spring for a new season.  Enjoy the offseason, and we will see you around.

Prognostikeggers NLCS: Cardinals @ Brewers

(Check out the rules for Prognostikeggers here.)

The Brewers are back home to finish the NLCS, and they'll need to use the home field as much as possible to get to the World Series.  Meanwhile, the rest of you get one or more chances to pad your scores for the NLCS.

After five games of action in the NLCS, guayzimi has taken a commanding lead entering the last two games.  With a six-point advantage, it's just a matter of staying ahead of the players behind.  Of course, with a little luck, GoldeFrank, Capt Science, or anyone else could catch up.  It wouldn't be the strangest thing we've ever seen.

Good luck over the next few days.  Make your picks with confidence, then watch and support the Brewers.  Let's see a comeback that gets them to the World Series.

Extra Prediction for NLCS Game 6:  Predict the number of pitches Shaun Marcum throws in the game. Predictions within 10 pitches of the actual count get 1 point, within 7 pitches get 2 points, within 3 pitches get 3 points, and an exact prediction is worth 4 points.

Extra Predictions for NLCS Game 7:  Predict the official game score for Yovani Gallardo. Predictions within 10 points of the actual score will earn 1 point, 7 points will earn 2 points, 3 points will earn 3 points, and an exact prediction is worth 4 points.

(Reminder on the calculation of Game Score.)

Prognostikeggers NLCS: Brewers @ Cardinals

(Check out the rules for Prognostikeggers here.)

As the NLCS moves to St. Louis, there's three more games to make predictions on.  These might be the last three games of the series, and there might be more back in Milwaukee.  Just try to accumulate points and hope to win.

Another short intro, so let's move on to the predictions.

Extra Prediction for NLCS Game 3:  Predict the number of plate appearances for both teams combined in the game.  Predictions within 6 plate appearances are worth 1 point, 3 plate appearances is worth 2 points, and an exact prediction is worth 3 points.

Extra Prediction for NLCS Game 4:  Predict which Brewer will record the team's fifth hit.  A correct prediction involving a starter is worth 2 points.  A correct prediction with a bench player is worth 4 points.  You may also predict no fifth hit, which is worth 3 points.

Extra Prediction for NLCS Game 5:  Predict the number of strikes thrown by both teams in the game.  A prediction within 15 strikes of the actual count is worth 1 point, 10 strikes is worth 2 points, 5 strikes is worth 3 points, and an exact prediction is worth 4 points.

Prognostikeggers NLCS: Cardinals @ Brewers

(Check out the rules for Prognostikeggers here.)

What can I say about yesterday that hasn't already been said?  It was one of the most intense days that we have ever experienced.  The tension, the drama, the suspense, all wrapped up into one day.  The most exciting part of it:  That was only the first round.

In the NLDS, it came down to the final day.  In the competition, SCBrewer and Capt Science fought to a tie in the NLDS, and share the win for the NLDS.  It was a convincing win as well, as their margin of victory was eight points over the next closest people.  They each took a different path to win the week.  SCBrewer entered the final day leading the competition and just held on.  Capt Science made a huge comeback, scoring ten points in the final game to tie for the lead.  However, as well as they did, they could not overcome the challenge and defeat me.

Now we move on to the NLCS.  As everything has reset for the Brewers, it is all resetting here.  Everything done in the NLDS has been put aside, and the NLCS is a clean slate.  Everyone is still welcome to join in to try and take the win in this round.  I will participate again, to provide the same challenge.  The question for the rest of you is simple.  Who will step up and win the NLCS version of Prognostikeggers?

Extra Prediction for NLCS Game 1:  Predict the distance of the longest home run hit by either team.  If your prediction is within 10 feet of the actual distance of the longest home run hit, you will get 1 point.  Within 7 feet gets you 2 points, 3 feet for 3 points, and an exact prediction will yield 4 points.  You may also predict that no home runs will be hit by either team.  If you do and are correct, you will get 3 points.

Extra Prediction for NLCS Game 2:  Predict the official game time (a.k.a. length of the game).  If your prediction is within 10 minutes of the actual game time, you will get 1 point.  Within 7 minutes gets you 2 points, 3 minutes for 3 points, and an exact prediction will yield 4 points.

Prognostikeggers NLDS: Diamondbacks @ Brewers

(Check out the rules for Prognostikeggers here.)

I don't know if any of us wanted to see this situation come up.  One game to decide the Brewers' season will occur on Friday.  A win sends the Brewers to the NLCS.  Let's not think about the alternative.

With that, you have one more chance to accumulate some points in the NLDS and take this series for Prognostikeggers.  Entering the final game, SCBrewer has taken a slight lead.  Several people are still in striking distance of the top.  Who will emerge from the crowd to claim this win?

Extra Prediction for NLDS Game 5:  Predict what inning the winning run will be scored in.  By winning run, I refer to the run that puts the winning team ahead for good.  For example, if the final score is 6-4, when did the winning team score their fifth run?  Scoring for this prediction will work as follows.  If you choose a regulation inning (1-9) and are correct, you will get 3 points.  If you choose an extra inning and are correct, you will get 5 points.  (Note: The final option is 19th inning or later, if you actually choose that, you get every inning from the 19th on.  If you have the guts to actually predict something like that, you deserve a little help.)

Prognostikeggers NLDS: Brewers @ Diamondbacks

(Check out the rules for Prognostikeggers here.)

We're two games into the NLDS, and Prognostikeggers has taken an interesting turn.   As I said in the previous post, I'm posting predictions for these games as well, and currently I'm leading in the NLDS prediction standings.  Can someone make a comeback and jump ahead?  This is where it gets interesting.  There could be as few as one more game in the NLDS, and as many as three more games.  You might get more chances, or this could be your last chance to score before a winner for the NLDS is announced.  Make sure to take advantage of it.

Extra Prediction for NLDS Game 3: Predict the game score for Shaun Marcum's start.  Within 10 points of the actual score gets 1 point, 7 points gets 2 points, 3 points gets 3 points, and an exact prediction is worth 4 points.

(Edit: Here's a reminder about what Game Score is and how it is calculated.)

Extra Prediction for NLDS Game 4: Predict the number of pitches thrown by all Brewers pitchers in the game.  Within 10 pitches of the actual count gets 1 point, 7 pitches gets 2 points, 3 pitches gets 3 points, and an exact prediction is worth 4 points.

Prognostikeggers NLDS: Diamondbacks @ Brewers

Welcome to Prognostikeggers 1.5.  It's time for the playoffs.

It's a whole new competition at this point.  No scoring from the regular season carries over.  Everything is all new.  Scoring has been adjusted to make everything more balanced.  The predictions are more involved.  Despite all of the changes, it's the same competition that you've come to enjoy.

For the playoffs, posts will come out each time a series switches locations.  For example, in the NLDS, there will be a post for Games 1 and 2, a post for Games 3 and 4, and a post for Game 5.  Just keep an eye out for new posts, and be ready to make your predictions.

This is open to everyone.  Whether you're a Brewers fan, a Diamondbacks fan, or a fan of another team, you are welcome to participate.  Also, just for the playoffs, I will join in on making predictions.  My predictions will be on the available forms as well for you to view, so you can hold me accountable to what I predict.

Let's get the playoff version of Prognostikeggers started.

Extra Prediction for Game 1:  Predict the pitch speed of the first pitch thrown by Yovani Gallardo.  This is the speed as reported by MLB Gameday.  If you are within 1 MPH of the actual speed, you will get two points.

Extra Prediction for Game 2:  Predict which Brewer will score the first run for the Brewers in this game.  If you are correct, you will score two points.  You may also select "None" if you think the Brewers will not score any runs, and that would also be worth two points if correct.

(Note on the entry forms.  For any prediction involving the prediction of a player, I have players in there that I believe will be on the postseason roster.  As far as I am aware, it hasn't been announced yet.  If something changes and the roster is different than expected, I will adjust as soon as I can.)

With all of the changes coming for the playoffs, I think it would be a good time to go through the rules again.  All of the rules will be posted after the jump, along with a table containing the scoring for the NLDS.

Prognostikeggers Playoffs - Finals Review

The Brewers' regular season has come to an end, and so has the Prognostikeggers playoffs.  It all came down to the last game and two tiebreakers, but we have a winner.  Jimf has won the Prognostikeggers Finals!

Entering the final series of the playoffs, jimf and icecreamman were tied at 11.  Over the next three days, they matched each other game for game (and sometimes prediction for prediction).  After last night's game, it came down to the tiebreakers.  The first tiebreaker was the bonus point predictions.  With only one point for each of them (both coming on Saturday's prediction), it went to the second tiebreaker: extra point predictions.  This is where it was broken.  Both of them earned two points from predictions in the Cubs series.  However, jimf's one correct sausage race prediction ended up giving him the win.  If you want to talk about how close it could have been, look at Wednesday's predictions.  In his original prediction, icecreamman had chosen Polish, the sausage that won on Wednesday's night.  He later changed his pick to Bratwurst.  Had he not made that change, he would have won.

It was a wild rid for jimf.  Entering the playoffs as the #14 seed, he had a uphill battle to fight the whole way.  He needed a tiebreaker to survive the first round and get to the quarterfinals.  Then, he snuck into the semifinals with a second place finish in the quarterfinals.  He then advanced to the finals with a first-place finish in the semifinals.  In the finals, it was a fight all the way, but he managed to hang in there and win it all.

In the third place match, we had another close match with high scoring all of the way.  That match went to jarlbartar, who was aided with a two-point prediction on Yuniesky Betancourt to take third place in the playoffs.  After leading the regular season, Dulzy ends up in fourth place in the playoffs.

In the fifth place match, proachinf took an early lead on ObiBraunKenobi, who ended up bowing out early.  That gave proachinf the fifth place finish and put ObiBraunKenobi at sixth.  It was a similar situation in the seventh place match, as MrLeam got a lead and didn't look back.

Battling for ninth place, badgerman59 and ddloml fought to a tie, but badgerman59 ended up taking ninth place with his one correct bonus prediction to win the tiebreaker.  Going for eleventh place, MKEtotheATX pulled away late to take the win over brewerspug.  In the thirteenth place match, philc78 only needed a few predictions to take the match over Officer Jim Lahey, who didn't make a prediction.  It was similar for the fifteenth place match, as texwestern made a triumphant return to get fifteenth place over an inactive toki47.

Here are the full results for the playoffs:

Playoffs Results
Champion: jimf
2nd Place: icecreamman
3rd Place: jarlbartar
4th Place: Dulzy
5th Place: proachinf
6th Place: ObiBraunKenobi
7th Place: MrLeam
8th Place: thefreewheelin76
9th Place: badgerman59*
10th Place: ddloml*
11th Place: brewerspug
12th Place: MKEtotheATX
13th Place: philc78
14th Place: Officer Jim Lahey
15th Place: texwestern
16th Place: toki47

* - badgerman59 wins over ddloml due to win in the first tiebreaker (1-0 in Bonus Predictions)

In the consolation match, Kid19 essentially led from start to finish, as we got to see what the people who didn't make the playoffs could do.  Dikapalooza was close behind him to finish second, with Michael E1 and Bush League All Star following behind. Considering how well these people did, they will be players to watch out for during Prognostikeggers in the Brewers' playoffs.

Consolation Results
Champion: Kid19
2nd Place: dikapalooza
3rd Place: Michael E1
4th Place: Bush League All Star
5th Place: Jennings085

That brings the regular season to an end.  However, Prognostikeggers will stick around for the playoffs.  Check out the previous post for a preview of how they will work, and look out tomorrow for the Prognostikeggers post for the first two games of the NLDS.  Also, look below the jump for all of the playoff results.
