Pirates place Mientkiewicz on bereavement list

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Pirates placed first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz on the bereavement list following Monday's win against the New York Mets.
Mientkiewicz left the team to be with his wife, who underwent heart surgery on Monday. The earliest he is eligible to rejoin the team is Friday, but he is expected to be with his wife as long as is necessary.
To take his spot on the roster, the Pirates have called up outfielder Nyjer Morgan from Triple-A Indianapolis. Morgan has been swinging a hot bat as of late, going .472 with 16 runs batted in and 12 stolen bases in the past 15 games.
