Minor League Splits Database is LIVE!
You've read about it, you've dreamed about it, you've fantasized about it. Now, you can experience the Minor League Splits Database. Check out that project home page for a full introduction. The MLSD has reasonably up-to-date play-by-play based stats on every single Minor League player with 10+ ABs or 5+ IP, which will help you find:
- Lefty/Righty splits
- Batted-ball data (grounders, fly balls, line drives, etc.)
- Home/Road splits
- BABIP for both pitchers and hitters
- Performance in a variety of sitations, such as none on, bases loaded, two out, etc.
If you'd like to check it out but don't know where to start, try the stat table for Mike Rivera, or to check out how it looks for pitchers, try Yovani Gallardo. To get an idea of the breadth of the data, here's a list of all Minor Leaguers in the Brewers organization, with links to their stat tables. I tried to link everything as thoroughly as possible, so as long as you know what team, league, or organization a player is part of, you should be able to track them down.
Of course, if you're not a Brewers fan (egads!) you'll still find just as much to play with in the MLSD. Perhaps you'd be interested in split stats for Royals prospect Alex Gordon, or the young Atlanta Braves phenom Elvis Andrus. If you're a Reds fan, I'll forgive you your team's ridiculous start for a moment and point you to Homer Bailey's splits, but just to be mean, here's the results of Paul Wilson's AAA rehab stint.
As you can probably tell, there's plenty of fun to be had here, and once there's a little more data (those one-month sample sizes are a bit frustrating) there's almost endless possibilities for research. Let me know what you think--I intend to constantly expand and improve upon what you already see here.

Yeah, that's where the magic is. turning the pbp data into something usuable.
vbscript program?
what if you instead imported your data files into a mysql db (for example) and built a simple php website to create your html from the db?
from there you can do just about anything.
if you are interested in doing something like that, let me know.
:)

ah
most important would be to get your data into a database. then you are just a couple slick webpages away from the equivalent of fangraphs.com (for example).
i don't have much spare time these days, but if you wanted to send me an example of your game logs (or point me to a retrosheet example if one exists) i might be able to create a couple of web pages for you to use to get the data into a db and from there output your tables...
great work jeff!

Nice
I was wondering if month-by-month splits could be given for players. Also, it doesn't seem like it would be hard to track fielding percentages and range factors. That would be a nice addition.
Just giving suggestions.

Oh yeah
Fielding stuff is going to be tricky...even the simple stats. But I'll get there eventually.

RBIs
Hmm...that might be easier than I initially thought. I might be able to include that in the future.
