Let's start with my Chicago Cubs team preview at Beyond the Boxscore. It's really tough to project a team that has made so many changes, so I tried to figure out a reasonable upside for the Cubs. I came out at about 86 wins; Larry Borowsky ran the numbers and ended up with a similar result.
At THT, Studes looks at the 41st through 80th best everyday players in history. Rockin' Robin is 50th, Paul Molitor is 53rd.
It's not Brewers-related, but as Bleed Cubbie Blue counts down the top 100 Cubs, they've arrived at my favorite non-Brewer of all time, Andre Dawson.
Couple of Pirates tidbits: they could sign Freddy Sanchez to a two-year deal, and they're chasing Jeff Weaver. As for Sanchez, it doesn't matter much: he's under their control through '09. Weaver? Well, we outbid them for Jeff Suppan, so they're scraping the bottom of the barrel.
Rosenthal checks in on the Weaver situation, too. He also comments on Soriano's proper position, and note how inexperienced Rickie Weeks is, relative to some players who came up at about the same time.
Here's the first installment of an A's roundtable I'm contributing to. Many A's experts (and me, too) agree that Rich Harden's health is the key to the A's success this year. Y'know, if you care.

86 wins for the Cubs?

I bet they'll fall a little short of that, though it's certainly within reach. In fact, you could say the same thing about the Brewers.

This could be a really interesting year for the NL Central: no one team looks dominating (ie, 90+ wins), but 4 teams could fall in the 81-89 win range, and if the Reds play like they did last season, they could be there in September as well. This should be fun.

Actually, there are some parallels with the NL Central and the Brewer pitching staff.
