Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Geoff Jenkins will start getting booed soon

Jinxie  is finalizing a two-year deal with the Phillies.

It's $13MM for two years, with an option for 2010 that kicks in at a certain number of plate appearances.  This is a decent deal for all sides--Jenks gets the multiple years he was looking for, and $6.5MM per year is probably about what he is worth.

And hey, if he takes advantage of the bandbox that is Citizen's Bank Park, he might just score another multi-year deal when this is over.

Good luck, Geoff--may you occasionally hit home runs off of Matt Wise, but never off of Guillermo Mota.

platoon
Wow that didn't take long. The phillies are already saying he'll only platoon. Lot's of dough for a part time outfielder.

The price
It seems high to me, but I'm glad he found a spot on a decent team.

i too am happy for him.
good luck jinxie! i can't wait to see ned manage against him... the first time he walks to the mound to bring out a lefty reliever with a smirk on his face... it'll be fantastic.

unless he Yosts himself
and leaves in a righty to face Jenkins because said righty has a "hot hand."

hopefully
Hopefully, that lefty could be eddie guardado as we sneak him past everyone else and he has a HUGE season from the left side.

good luck jenks
but not against the Crew!  I still think they paid way too much money for a platoon player, especially one that is going to play in a pitcher's park.  The Padres must have a little money to throw around.

Pitcher's park?
I thought Citizens Bank Park was a pretty good hitters' park.

What we have here
is failure to communicate.  Yes, Citizens Bank Park is a good hitters park.  But this Jimmy fella seems to think the Padres signed him, not the Phillies, despite the headline of the link.

on a side note
rumors of kenny lofton are nothing new, but it finally looks like melvin is considering the blatantly obvious decision to move hall back to 3rd

um
I like Tim at MLBTR, but don't rely on him for Brewers analysis.  I'm pretty sure Lofton would be coming as a LF, and even if he plays CF, that probably means Hall plays left, not Braun.  I just don't see the brain trust moving both Hall and Braun for a role-player/stopgap.
Weird, but not weird.

agreed
i try not to rely on MLBTR's analysis too much, but they block espn at my work, so unfortunately that's all I had to go off of.  I wasn't sure if it was something buster olney discussed in his article or not

seems to be working
Apparently by blocking espn.com, they've made it absolutely impossible for you to shirk. :) What a brilliant idea...

Wow
he also says that the obvious choice to platoon with Lofton would be Corey Hart.  Did MLBTR miss the 2007 season or something?

just one move
i hate this talk of moving three players to fix something for little more than a year. Sounds like Matt laporta is to be the left fielder of the future. Now one of the rumors is signing Lofton to play center, which I doubt. Then move Hall to third and Braun to left. Why would we make third moves to fix one thing. Makes no sense at all. I'm not against a platoon of Gross/Dillon/Gwynn. It's cheap and we don't need them for offense. Save the money for arbitration or to add a veteran catcher or more pitching. I don't see what Lofton or gonzo (who is a bad fielder) brings to this team.

When you say booed
Do you mean by the harsh Philly fans or the folks at Miller Park that enjoy booing every former Brewers player?

That would be comical
Jinxie plays a homestand in Philadelphia, where he gets booed lustily by the home crowd, then he comes here, and promptly gets booed.

He should be okay with the Phils fans
as long as Charlie "Forrest Gump" Manual doesn't try to play him against lefties.  I wish the best of luck to Favre Jr.

The Lofton rumor.
The guy who wrote that is a total ding-dong! Why on earth would you platoon Hart, who's just coming into his own? I also agree with the earlier post about having 2 players switch positions, in Hall's case AGAIN, for a 1 year player. That's flat out absurd! It would be nice to have him, though, fighting for a position with the others.

Gabe Kapler
The Brewers have just signed Gabe Kapler today.  Yes, that's Kapler, who used to be retired.  Come check out my blog to see the rest!

Just saw Jenks
in Phillies gear, and it mad me a little sad.  I'll never forget the smile he gets when he throws someone out from the wall.
