Another trade--Hendrickson to the Royals

Press release via mlb.com:

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Brewers today acquired C Maxim St. Pierre from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for RHP Ben Hendrickson. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Melvin.

St. Pierre, 26, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 26th round of the 1997 First-Year Player Draft. He has played 10 seasons in the minor leagues for Detroit, batting .254 with 43 HR and 331 RBI in 762 games. St. Pierre was a Midwest League All-Star at Class-A West Michigan (2000), a Florida State League All-Star at Class-A Lakeland (2001-02) and an Eastern League All-Star at Double-A Erie (2003-05).

St. Pierre joined the Royals as a minor-league free agent on Jan. 24, 2007. He has been added to the roster at Triple-A Nashville.

Hendrickson, 26, was selected by the Brewers in the 10th round of the 1999 First-Year Player Draft. He went 1-10 with a 7.41 ERA in 14 games (12 starts) during Major League stints in 2004 and 2006.

With all due respect to Mr. St. Pierre, we just traded Little Ben for a bag of balls. May he pitch well in Omaha. Or something.

What?
WHY would we trade for a catcher?  This makes no sense whatsoever.  10 years in the minors?

Compassion
Hendrickson had no future with the Brewers, and really doesn't have much of a future in baseball.  The kindest thing to do for him was trade him to a team that is so bad, they might actually have to use him.

Wow, uh...
The new guy really sucks.  At least trade for a pitcher or something...

Nonsense!
We have someone in our system named Maxim St. Pierre!  That name is downright Kieschnickian.

Melvin's thoughts..
I wonder if this deal was done because Doug thought there was no way Rivera would make it through waivers. I sure didn't. But, the time discrepancies have the deal being announced after Rivera accepting assignment. Given that neither Hendrickson nor St Pierre will probably amount to much, I suppose the trade is inconsequential anyways. But as someone else said, a pitcher, even if a long shot, would have been preferable.

Palmisano
So what does this mean for Lou Palmisano other than making him look better in AA by comparison?

by TheJay on Mar 27, 2007 9:29 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Cap'n Lou
I guess that means we have Palmasano in Huntsville not hitting, Maxim St. Pierre (very dickensian name) not hitting in Nashville every third day behind either Rivera who will hit and Rotino who might, and we have Estrada and Miller who might stay healthy and hit in Milwaukee.  Aggregate, still no prospects of an above average catcher unless Estrada hits like he did last year.

One more thing
You ever have one of those moments where you read something, sit back, and listen to the 1812 Overture followed by Ode to Joy run through your head?  Thats Hendrickson getting traded.

Catcher
Why not trade him fora real life scale Kevin Mench Bobble Head.  It would be more useful than this catcher.
