Prospects, Organizations, Gallardo, Everything

Okay, I'm going to stop being a Nate Silver fanboy after this, but if you're not a Baseball Prospectus subscriber, you should:

1. Read this article.
2. Realize what you've been missing.
3. Become a BP subscriber.

Honestly, I don't have a financial stake in this, though a few BP writers are buddies of mine.  Nate's prospect ranking stuff is just awesome.  If I spent more time with spreadsheets and less time watching Brewers games, I'd like to think this is the kind of stuff I'd be doing...but that's optimistic.

The article ultimately ranks organizations by all sorts of measures, and the Brewers don't come out as well as I would've expected.  Maybe good years from the likes of Jeffress and whoever we draft in the first round would make the difference.  

Speaking of the amateur draft, I usually don't follow it too closely (and that's not going to change this year), but I am crunching numbers like crazy.  For an early look at the best college hitters (and, in many cases, draft prospects), check out my Hardball Times article today.  I don't know exactly how high scouts are on Matt LaPorta, or whether he might fall to the Brewers, but he is clearly the Alex Rodriguez of the NCAA so far this year.
