Buehrle to Brewers?

I dunno if anyone has mentioned this, but I thought it was noteworthy of a diary.  On MLB Trade Rumors, they link to a Ken Rosenthal states that the Brewers might be in on trade talks for Buehrle.  It says that Braun or Gallardo might have to be parted with, and it is unlikely that Melvin would do that (thank God).  Trade Rumors also speculates that Corey Hart might interest Williams.  Personally, if I see us get rid of any of those players, I would be very pissed. Personally, I'd prefer to stick with what we got than pick up Buehrle for half a season. Your thoughts?

That's nuts
It's hard to imagine creating a gaping hole in our team for half a season for anyone.  I usually frown on the idea of untoucables, but Weeks, Fielder, Hardy, Hart, and Hall (and Gallardo) are pretty much there.

i would add Braun to your list, too...
this team is young and solid.  they have been working to get them here together for years; no way are they trading any of them away now.  (thank god Corey has come on, or they might have been tempted to listen for offers for him)

Yeah, there's that Braun guy too

How about
Fielder for Buehrle? Yeah, that works. Absurd rumours to say the least.

by iluvlamp on Jun 24, 2007 9:44 PM CDT reply actions

That would be dumb
I can't see how Buehrle would be an upgrade at all if the team subtracted Braun or Gallardo. The only way it could even possibly work, and it still would be a loss for the Brewers, is if it involved Bush or Vargas, a starter who would presumably be appealing to the White Sox because they would have them under control for a few more years, and someone like Tony Gwynn or Laynce Nix.

Who knows what "kicked the tires" means anyway? Maybe it was just a call to exchange pleasantries and see what the market for each team's players was like.

I know, I know...
"you can never have too much pitching" and all that, but pitching really isn't in need of an upgrade*. And for that price?! Seriously, which Chicago-area sports talk radio show did Rosenthal pick that up from?

* For all the griping about the back end of both the rotation and the bullpen, everyone's pretty serviceable, really. And heck, if we have to have some unexpected moves - when Capuano comes back and Bush or Vargas moves to relief, get rid of both Capellan and Spurling, and call up Grant Balfour who just had a three-inning save with 6 (!) strikeouts tonight. Now sporting this combined Huntsville/Nashville line: 36.1 IP, 1.98 ERA (with no UER, to boot), 57 K (14.1/9), 12 BB, .165 AVG against.

rosenthal
is not much reliable than mlb trade rumors .com they both trade in wild unfounded speculation.

just the fact that ryan braun is mentioned is laughable.

:)

But it would be pretty cool to see the brewers go out and get THE available pitcher at the deadline.

I'll bet the White Sox would take TGjr...

I laughed out loud!!!!
when I saw the picture of Braun in the article.  Ridiculous!

I like the part
where he writes: The Brewers would resist parting with Ryan Braun or Yovanni Gallardo.

Resist is not the word for it.  It is would rather die..., or perhaps would expect the ownership from Mr. Reinsdorf before...

That's not the Chirizo, It's Enrico Polazzo!

What about
Clearing our LF for Dye? Thoughts?

Dye = Jenkins
In my mind, Jermaine Dye is Geoff Jenkins only a year older. There's no point in giving up anything to acquire a clone of the guy he'd replace.

I think the Crew's best bargaining chip
is there young pitching.

Vargas and Bush are possibilities, but if I were another team, I would target Carlos V.  or Will Inman.

Ridonkulous!
The team that gets Buehrle will be disappointed, and it would be extremely silly for the Brewers to get him.

I agree
I wouldn't mind taking a look at Vazquez though.

I'd trade Tony Gywnn
and Bush or Vargas for half a season of Buerhle. I think that would work. Or Nix and one of the back end starters.

scrubs
The sox are not going to give up their ace for our scrubs. Thats just what they want vargas and nix.  It would have to be an inman or parra type guy.

This has got to be
one of the most idiotic rumors I've ever heard.

The only good thing
about Rosenthal's column is that it pointed out something that I didn't know (though maybe others here did):

Dave Bush was a closer at Wake Forest.

It's going to be a long time before I'd be OK with Turnblownsave closing for us again, and I wouldn't want to pony up the bucks for CoCo after this season.  We're going to have closer tryouts, and I'm curious as to how Dave Bush would do.  (Especially given that in many of his starts, he does well for 5 innings or so and then tires.)

I knew that
And I always think it's so stupid when people say "so and so used to be a reliever in college" and leave off the "five years ago" at the end. Heck, Rick Ankiel used to be a pitcher, too, but the Cards aren't using him to solve their rotation problems.

by TheJay on Jun 26, 2007 1:56 PM CDT up reply actions

I dunno
I have no idea if he was any good, buttttt, if we need a closer next season and our rotation is crowded as is, I think he's at least worth a look.

trade rumors dead
I'm sure many of you frequent MLB Trade Rumors anyway and have already seen this, but just incase, it doesn't look like Buehrle's going anywhere after all.
