Game Thread #161: More Than Just a Palindrome

Please.

Pretty please.

Let's win 82.

I mean, we have to, right?

Not only that, but the feel good story of the stretch run is the Rockies (with apologies to the Phils), and we are uniquely situated to help them out.

Dave Bush goes up against the vastly superior Chris Young, but in the name of all that is good in the world, I think Bush is going to bring his 'A' game this afternoon.

Go Brewers!

A as in...
  • "Another mistake up in the zone."
  • Another home run!
  • A subpar performance even for Dave Bush.
-or-
  • A ten-strikeout performance.
  • A shutout.
  • A quality start, but barely.
I'll hope it's one of the last ones.

I'll be at Coors Field tomorrow
So c'mon Brewers, make it interesting in Denver...and Rockies, get used to playing in the spotlight and stop swinging at pitches over your heads.

Lineup
Weeks, 2B
Hardy, SS
Braun, 3B
Fielder, 1B
Hart, CF
Gross, RF
Jenkins, LF
Rivera, C
Bush, P

It's always nice when a .215/.270/.421 AAA hitter gets a start.

Haha
Prince, meet the worst team in the league at holding runners with the starter allowing the most steals on the mound...

Run Prince, Run!
Multi-stolen base game...

In case you're wondering...
Yes, he is the heaviest player in baseball history to have multiple stolen bases in the same game.

Also, something tells me they goofed on this guy's weight.

Hmm
Dave Bush pitching, 3-0 count, a strike down the middle and a home run on a 3-1 pitch.

Haven't seen that before.

Nix or Gwynn
...and the other would have to bat next, unless you want to stick a righty up there against Hoffman.

I would guess
Batting Gwynn for Mench and letting Hall face a righty is probably the better move anyway.

Alright!
Nothing like a rally a day late!

Hmm
Why let Rivera bat there? He's not exactly a decent hitter and you have two catchers on the bench. You might as well stick Dillon or Rottino in there, since they actually could swing the bat at AAA. Enh, whatever.

Somehow I think it'll be Spurling or someone of equal or worse caliber.

If they win
Who would have thought the outfield would go Gwynn-Nix-Hart to end the game clinching the first winning season since 1992?

I don't think he meant to dive for first, at least not from the replay.

Yeah
He was falling down and kind of slammed his head into the bag. At first I thought he might be hurt with how awkwardly he hit the base. I'm sure it wasn't intentional, either to slide or definitely to hurt Fielder. All's well that ends well though. At least it didn't happen in mid-season.
