Deadspin Brewers Preview

This is definitely worth its own diary.

Deadspin is having someone preview all of the Major League teams before the season starts, and the writer they found for the Brewers, Dan Kois, summed up last year pretty accurately.

The author knows what he is talking about. Here's a quote, written in first-person Ned Yost perspective:

"The fact is, our bullpen could blow a hundred games this year and we'd still win the division. We still have math on our side."

Some diehard Ned supporters might be upset at this, but I think it's pretty funny. At least it's not another 'preview' that says things like:

- The Cubs have balance
- The Cubs have a good rotation
- If the Cubs win more games than the Brewers, they will win the division
- The Cubs had a great offseason by picking up Kosuke Fukudome. The Brewers had a bad one, acquiring four established relief pitchers and a centerfielder.

Marty,
you just love it since you were linked twice... unless you wrote it and are actually a magazine editor in New York.  Regardless, is F*ckNedYost.com still available?

eww
I'm just not interested in Ned that way, so I've never checked on that web site :)

I did not write that article, and didn't even know we were linked until I got an email telling me.  First deadspin link...woo! :)

Wow
I didn't even catch those links the first time I read it. Congratulations. Maybe this will bring some national exposure to our situation here.

That was one heck of an story.

great artical
I need to remember not to read anything where a Cubs fan might post.  They are like terrorists, all hate and fearing their persecutors, and their persecutors are EVERYWHERE.  Good grief, I enjoy every other team in baseball but the Cubs, and I want to have fun watching them to, but the fans force me to hate on guys like D Lee who, if on any other team, I would love.

Now that it's over, how will you remember the Brewers' season?
  • A rousing success. They made the playoffs, something they hadn't done since before many bloggers here were born.
  • Mostly satisfying. If you'd told me 90 wins and a playoff berth at the beginning of the year, I'd have taken it, but the limp the finish took some of the sparkle off.
  • Great on its own, but downgraded after accouting for context; with Sabathia and Sheets most likely having thrown their last pitch for the team, the Brewers may have blown their golden opportunity.
  • I'm left feeling unfulfilled. I think the team was capable of a lot more than it showed. With a healthy Sheets, who knows how far they go?
  • They're the crappiest bunch of crap that ever crapped.
