Game Thread #16: Brewers (9-6) @ Diamondbacks (6-9)

Jeff Suppan faces Micah Owings for at least a few innings today.  Since most of the team rested yesterday, I expect to see most of the regulars today, except maybe Prince will finally take a day off, and "crafty veteran" Kendall picked today as his one day off.  Apparently, you need several years in the league before you learn that the 2 hour bus ride to Tucson is no fun, because even BA and the Rock got it in on that story yesterday.

In other gritty news, Craig Counsell had one of those errors yesterday that broke up Cappy's perfect game.  Well, if you wade through all the excuses, maybe it wasn't a perfect game.  It's hard to say with all the blame being heaped in the defense.  The defense deserves that scorn, but I fail to see how Cappy can feel good about that outing when he gave up several hits to compound the damage.  Oh well.  The Fan Zone manager will be happy to hear that Ned is squarely behind Cappy.

Star-divide

2B Rickie Weeks
CF Gabe Kapler
LF Gabe Gross
3B Bill Hall
RF Corey Hart
1B Eric Munson
SS Alcides Escobar
C Vinny Rottino
P Jeff Suppan

The 4 starter rule is being honored today with Gabe Kapler. I wouldn't complain about this if Ned hadn't made such a big deal about always playing 4 starters to obey the rule, but come on. He's considering Gabe Kapler for center field? Does anyone believe that?

Just saw
that the Reds picked up Jose Capellan, is that his fourth team in a year?  Aww who really cares.

I'd guess Ned is a Cappy fan
but even if he wasn't, they're not going to say anything negative with all the trade possibilities looming.

May not matter
I'm not positive, but I think the other teams are probably on to the fact that the manager and local media might not give an honest evaluation.  There might even be one or two people there who were paid to form their own opinion.

i'm trying to guess which voice should go with
your... how should I say it, salty humor? No offense intended.

Maybe Don Rickles?

Regardless, my guess at his upside is if he becomes a sort of B-grade Tom Glavine. Whatever happens, the tubes of the internets are going to be humming around Brewersville when moves happen at the start of the season.

This is your appetite talking
I do a pretty good Barry White impression when I have a chest cold.

Munson
Bats left and hitting well seems like big factors. He's streaky though.

I like it
so much I had to post it again.

Classic BA
Micah Owings, as big a threat on the mound as he is at the plate.

by Marty McSuperFly on Mar 13, 2008 3:12 PM CDT reply actions

Gah
That's at least the third time in the last two games where the Brewers loaded the bases and didn't score. (IIRC)

Cubs gameday
has it in the bottom of the second (no score, but Callix Crabbe had a hit), and the Brewers gameday says Micah is still warming up. Argh.

Suppan got a hit
Being a veteran gamer and knocking in a run to help his cause, I guess. Vinny Rottino tripled, so that's cool.

More veteran gaminess
An error happens behind Suppan and he gets the next batter to ground into a double play. Maybe he should impart his moneyed knowledge to Capuano.

hmmmm...
6-1 at this point.

I predict the phrase "working on his fastball" will appear early in the story of today's game.

It's only to be expected
Without Kendall to call the game, pitchers are at the mercy of the hitters.

Swing and a miss
