Thursday's Frosty Mug

All right, let's make this quick, I really need to get some work done before the tourney starts and I discover that my fiancee, who randomly selected her brackets, is going to beat me in the pool.

I'm confused: The JS has spent the last two weeks on stories about players who won't be in Milwaukee in April...how did a Mota feature sneak through?

MLB Trade Rumors says the Marlins are looking for starting pitching, and lists two of our pitchers as potential targets.

Braves Journal has random predictions today. They predict that Ned Yost will be the first manager fired (I'm ok with that), and that the Cubs will win the division, by 12 games, with 87 wins.

I don't know if that was written before or after Kerry Wood imploded.

The rest of the injury reports, alphabetical and in one line or less:

White Sox P Jose Contreras was scratched from his start yesterday with the flu.
White Sox 3B Josh Fields will miss a day or two after being hit with a pitch in an undisclosed location.
Nomar Garciaparra has a microfracture in his right hand and his return date is uncertain.
Ichiro needs to watch out for zombies.
Scott Linebrink is out until at least Saturday with recurring back pain. 4 years, $19 million.
Justin Morneau is day-to-day with a great disturbance in the force.
White Sox 2B Danny Richar also underwent an MRI for recurring back pain.
Cardinals 2B Brendan Ryan is missing time with a strained intercostal muscle.

The Japanese Leagues are working on speeding up the game to prevent global warming. In other news, Claudio Vargas will never be allowed to pitch in Japan.

Fan Graphs' "Get to know a stat" is WPA/LI. I'm pretty sure I still don't understand it.

That's all for today. The jokes are in the injury report, if you missed them.

Drink up. And go Badgers!

Braves journal
I'm willing to forgive the silly NL central comment, because of this:
Yankees not winning the division will be the fault of: A-Rod, of course
A-Rod's numbers: .311/.430/.622, 47 HR

It's funny because it's true.

Japanese Leagues
Steve Trachsel vs. Doug Davis is presumably the worst possible matchup in Japan.

Five things about the Brewers
http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/story/10719884

Was that already posted? Not much there except this:

"Newcomers Cameron and Jason Kendall have tagged a new nickname on the affable Prince Fielder: Big Friendly."

Sometimes...
Even with 170 daily reads, I see something and think "Oh, why don't I have THAT one?"

I just added a new feed to the list.

I bounce around so much
I always wonder whether something was mentioned earlier.

Its not as if there is much meat to that thing anyway.

Its really surprising that there aren't more nicknames.

Linebrink will stink
with the White Sux as bad as Steve Stone's analysis next to Ed Farmer's alleged play-by-play. I can't wait to see Guillen's first tirade after Stonie rakes him over the coals for his stupid decision-making. Almost makes me wish we could pound on the South Siders more often, like in the old days. Beating the Cubs is like shooting fish in a barrel.

i'm wish you
on everything, except bad steve stone analysis.

I actually like the Brewers
I'm really concerned about your defense, though.  Braun and Weeks both need to be in left field, but there's only one spot there.

Well
Considering that you're saying we'll have no more than 75 wins, I'd say you don't like us all that much, yeah?

Injecting some cold, hard reality
The Brewers defense is killing me in MLB 2k8 :)

Get a jump on things
Did you move Braun to left yet?

They have Braun in left
I just had Bush pitch a 1-hit complete game shutout of the Cardinals.  It was a no-hitter into the 9th.

Now, that's reality!

I mean I root for them...
When they aren't playing the Braves.

The Brewers' problems are fixable.  Getting Cameron to replace Hall... that's going to help a lot when he gets to play.  But right now you remind me of the Braves -- in 1990.  You have good young pitchers who are trying to do too much because your infield isn't helping.

different tone
than on bravesjournal. If the Brewers defense is so awful, what about the Braves? Your team allowed about 40 fewer runs. How was your pitching last year? The Brewers had all sorts of problems. I assume yours wasn't as bad, meaning your defense was about the same.

What about Bravespitching this year? Are you really going to try and run Glavine out there? Who is good after Smoltz and Hudson? I looked at your roster and saw Will Ohman in there. Do you expect him to make the 25 man roster? If so, I gotta wonder about the depth of your staff.

And you pick the Cards to finish second. What is your emotional attachment to them?
