I'm done
Can't take any more Spring ball.

by Marty McSuperFly on Mar 27, 2008 1:34 PM CDT   0 recs

Today should be fun though!
Two MiLB pitchers pitching against "nearly" the starting line up of the other team.

ack
The devils at mlb.tv are going to be streaming video.  I don't know if I can resist that.

Thanks for the heads up
Not that I'm normally OK supporting WGN, mind you.

Must be painful
for the flatlanders to hear Len and Bob giving all that love to the Brewers

Kendall
would have thrown him out.

triple and an error
as the Cubs do the baseball version of rope-a-dope

I see snow on them thar roofs. I'm glad opening day is a day game to cut down on the waiting, I sure hope it doesn't get weather delayed.

bob brenly
really annoys me.

are these major league umps?
The strike zone is a mystery.

by ol Pete on Mar 27, 2008 3:08 PM CDT   0 recs

JJ opens the fourth with a double to the wall
that's good to see after his illness. I watched the video on the Brewers site and he looked a little - don't know how to put it - still not motoring at full speed.

by ol Pete on Mar 27, 2008 3:16 PM CDT   0 recs

DeRosa's out
I wish I would have seen that.

by drezdn on Mar 27, 2008 3:33 PM CDT   0 recs

looked to me like a bad call
which is meaningless cuz its ST, but if these are major league umps...

they're
already in mid-season form!

Cubs new backup/platoon CF
grounds out to one of our AA/AAA? guys. Thought of Marty the detailmeister when I saw an article about him.

It mentioned both his grittiness and his veteran presence.

by ol Pete on Mar 27, 2008 3:45 PM CDT   0 recs

Cappy may not need surgery
So if he's on the DL for the first two months, he'll be ready to fill in when Sheets makes his freakish trip to the DL.

by Joe on Mar 27, 2008 3:54 PM CDT   0 recs

Micah Hoffpauir clocks one
lefty on lefty as well. He's been hot all spring... and he's going down to AAA.

by ol Pete on Mar 27, 2008 3:57 PM CDT   0 recs

and Cedeno adds another loooong one
and Len is hollering like their clinching the division.

Bad day for D. Miller the Brewers pitcher.

And Blanco hits a long extra base hit...

by ol Pete on Mar 27, 2008 4:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

second at bat for Hoffpauir
and he sends another one into the seats.

Maybe get that kid out of there Ned.

by ol Pete on Mar 27, 2008 4:24 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Is it just me
Or are the Cubs leaving a lot of their players in longer than the Brewers are?

by drezdn on Mar 27, 2008 3:59 PM CDT   0 recs

Looking at the boxscore
I see the Cubs picked up Damian Miller to pitch for them, guess they're really getting desperate.

by stevie ray Braun on Mar 27, 2008 4:02 PM CDT   0 recs

Oh wait...
that's the Brewers side.  In that case, welcome back Damian!

by stevie ray Braun on Mar 27, 2008 4:04 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

well Damian
isn't doing as well as Jeff Cirillo in his pitching career.

by ol Pete on Mar 27, 2008 4:07 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

camera shows the Zamboni chuckling in the dugout
people talk about Fielder being fat, but he looks like he's getting bigger. I still get a laugh out of his comment after he had cramping problems: I don't like to drink water.

by ol Pete on Mar 27, 2008 4:03 PM CDT   0 recs

The weight gain
might have something to do with their playing in HOHOkam park.

Whooops
Hahaha.. that might have been a CS if there was somewhere there.  Nicely done cubs.

by SgtClueLs on Mar 27, 2008 5:09 PM CDT   0 recs

My attention span
is really short during spring training games...the 9th ended and I had no idea the game was tied.

by KLSnow on Mar 27, 2008 5:16 PM CDT   0 recs

amen
i cant even watch it past the 5th inning

by baseballdan1092 on Mar 27, 2008 5:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

sure
this is from a person who wanted to go to the brewers exhibition game against the royals!

Apparently
Chicago Cubs 1 Huntsville Stars 1

by drezdn on Mar 27, 2008 5:50 PM CDT   0 recs

Even though we tied
I'm assuming we would have won, were the game to continue.

This Spring Training
IIRC, this means the Brewers haven't lost to the Cubs at all this Spring.

by drezdn on Mar 27, 2008 6:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

From the JS blog
"This was getaway day for us," said manager Ned Yost. "I figured if we didn't get our hitters out of their [sic] early and they didn't get theirs out early, we'd be here all night. They didn't go with the plan. It was on TV back in Chicago, so I understand."

Does anyone else think Ned won't take this matter lightly, a la the Angels/"Tempe flu" business of earlier in spring? I'm sure he'll find a way to get a cheap shot in next week. Someone should put Yost's head on the elephant in this picture:

Obscure baseball records and more at my blog, Recondite Baseball.

by TheJay on Mar 28, 2008 1:05 AM CDT   0 recs

Ha...
I've never seen that image before, but I like it. The photo shopping idea would be pretty sweet as well.
"He's been very, very impressive," Yost said. "I mean really impressive. I mean really, really impressive."
