Game Thread #31: Brewers vs. Royals

Camp is broken.

(Wouldn't it be funny if, to "break camp," the Brewers set fire to Maryvale, like a conquering army?  Or at least tore down a couple buildings?  Maybe it's just me.)

Tonight the game is at 7:05, it'll be on MLB.tv, and it'll feature Jeff Suppan vs. Brian Bannister.  See if Suppan can beat his former team, and see if Bannister has any control over the outcome after the Brewers make contact.

Looks like we'll see the regular lineup (plus Cameron), and Yost says the starters will go six or seven innings.

It's almost real baseball!

by baseballdan1092 on Mar 28, 2008 3:46 PM CDT   0 recs

hmm, you're right
It says "mlb.tv" on the schedule page, but maybe it just says that on every game.  Never mind.
Also, cheese.

Escobar
Ideally, Escobar makes some awesome play tonight that makes everyone's jaw drop. And, finally I get to see the penultimate spring training game live.

Are the Royals batting their pitcher?
Imagine if he hurts something swinging the bat.

If they want to be in the NL so bad
they have to show some balls and bat their pitcher.

by brewfan2 on Mar 28, 2008 5:08 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah
but apparently many AL teams instruct their pitchers not to swing.

that's an even easier out than Kendall.

They are playing with the DH tomorrow, though, at KC's request.

Also, cheese.

I assume Bob and Jim will be calling the action?
Also, what's up with Hall in front of Hart?

by jihad on Mar 28, 2008 5:41 PM CDT   0 recs

I've noticed that lately too...
I believe his Yostiness said something about Hall having more power (if you ignore 2007) and thus being a better option at 5 than Hart.  I like Hart better in the 5 spot myself.

Doesn't really matter
Flipping the 5 & 6 hitters isn't likely to mean much.  I expect Yost will do a lot of it this season as he chases the "hot hand."

by Marty McSuperFly on Mar 28, 2008 7:37 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, I know.
It just irritates me because the "logic" behind the decision appears divorced from reality.  At least on its face.  But then mine isn't any better.  I'm a bigger Hart fan than I am of Hall, so I'd rather have him batting after Braun.

turnbow self-destructing
throwing 2 into the screen...ueck says, "now if you're planning to catch it in the dirt, you have to jump a few feet."

inning finally ends with somehow just one scoring

Ouch
You hate to see (hear) someone get injured in one of these games. Hopefully Yabuta isn't hurt too badly.

From the game
Is it just me, or was Rickie making plays for Torres/Mota that he either didn't try for or didn't make earlier... Also, the bullpen is looking good.

by drezdn on Mar 28, 2008 10:57 PM CDT   0 recs

I left the game in the 7th last night
after seeing Weeks make 2 fantastic plays in the same inning.  I figured I'd leave on a high note.....

Also, you could hear that shot by Braun bounce off Yabuta's shin pretty clearly.  It sounded like the punch sound effect that they use in every movie.  Ouch.

If A-Rod hits A-Bombs, does Fielder hit F-Bombs? It's dumb I know....

Featured Poll

Poll
Who is the Brewers' top prospect?
  • Brett Lawrie - Cana-DUH!
  • Mat Gamel - A great pure hitter who could potentially play a position of need.
  • Alcides Escobar - The Brewers sorely need his defensive wizardry and contact-hitting approach. He also solves the 3B hole by shifting J.J. over.
  • Jonathan Lucroy - The best catching prospect in the system by virtue of the fact that he can actually catch. His hitting numbers at Brevard are very good on the face of it, but even better after accounting for Space Coast Stadium.
  • Angel Salome - He's leading a Huntsville team that's loaded with prospects in all three slash stats, and he has the tools to be a good defensive catcher.
  • Jeremy Jeffress - The only real pitching prospect in a sea of hitters, Jeffress could potentially ease the pain of losing two aces by blossoming into one himself.
  • Carlos George - Hey, Derek Jeter can't play defense either.
