Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

Game Thread: Game 8, Mariners (?-?) @ Brewers (4-3)

It was nice to watch the Brewers crush a collection of contest winners yesterday (seriously, did that Harrison guy win a radio call-in or something?  He's not actually a professional baseball player, is he?), but reality will probably slap the starting lineup pretty hard today, in the person of Felix Hernandez.  The Brewers have their own punisher heading to the mound in Ben Sheets, so the first couple innings should be interesting, at least.

Looks like another free audio webcast, but no video to be had.

Star-divide

Facing the Seattle ace:

2B Rickie Weeks
CF Mike Cameron
1B Prince Fielder
LF Ryan Braun
RF Corey Hart
3B Joe Dillon
SS J.J. Hardy
DH Matt LaPorta
C Jason Kendall

I'm pretty sure all the spring training webcasts are free.

Looks like I'm wrong on that.  Sorry.

King Felix
Over at the sister site, lookoutlanding.com, there is a poll on Felx Hernandez's upcoming season and the middle choice is "same back and forth between effectiveness and stupidity."

I wonder how he got the moniker King.

1,2,3
3 up 3 down, another good inning from sheets, let's hope it becomes the norm all year.

I am tired of this announcer already.
It's great to listen to baseball, but this guy is goofy.

MLB or Mariner announcer?
I heard the first 30 seconds of the mlb guy and decided his voice annoyed me and switched to the mariners guy. Nice way to get an outsiders perspective on the crew.

The "MLB Guy"
is Kent Sommerfeld (sp?), the guy who does the producing and engineering for the spring games and all of Powell and Uecker's regular season games.

MLB Guy
I'm switching over right now, enjoyed listening to the padre crew a couple days ago.. Only have heard positive things so far from the outsiders.

Sheets
How many pitches did he throw in that first inning? It felt like it lasted a minute.

by drezdn on Mar 6, 2008 2:20 PM CST reply actions

oh my
You guys are missing out.  The MLB guy just said that the Mariners like the look of Adam Jones for the outfield.

And the Hammer Drops
Brauny dinger, off the batters eye 410+ dead center.

I'm sure there was one
somewhere.  You should look it up and get back to me.  :)

Heh
Well, yeah, there was one sometime (somewhere between now and when they used three guys all year), but I mean recently. I guess you can throw Tony La Russa's teams out.

I voted 17
being the closest to what I think he would want. In an ideal world however, Ned would no doubt carry 16 pitchers 8 positional starters and 1 gritty veteran on the bench.

Not so fast
I'm counting Cirillo as a pitcher.  :)

Troubling quote from Yost
From the official site and a story on Simmons: He was sitting there in his jock strap and a T-shirt, smoking a cigarette. He told me, 'I've had people throughout my career that have taken the time to teach me this game. And it's my turn to turn around and do it for you.

Jenkins retired?
Why?

about how Favre and Jenks look alike.

If you dig around on Youtube.com, there is an episode of a tv show that has both Favre and Jenkins on.

Weird
No walks in this game. That's got to be kind of rare for an early spring game.
