Brevard County Hitting Rehearsal

I like the idea, but I feel like they could have come up with a better name than hitting rehearsal. They need something catchy otherwise everyone is going to continue to call it BP. Anyone have a better suggestion?

Another solid outing for Cappy

Interview with Manatees Hitting Coach Corey Hart

With many sports fans enjoying the Final Four and the final exhibition game not until 9 PM, it's a slow day for Brewers news. In case you're interested, the Brevard County Manatees' web site interviewed Corey Hart last week. Before you ask, the Brewers' right fielder hasn't retired to a coaching career. No, this is the other Corey Hart, a .242/.371/.317 hitter over eight seasons in the minors. My favorite part is the story of how he got the job: "I went to Spring Training with the Brewers in 2006. Halfway through camp, I was released on a Friday and offered the Brevard County hitting coach job at same time. I interviewed on Saturday and was coaching on Sunday." Oh, and "Fear the Sea Cow!" is one hell of a rallying cry.

BCB Interview: 3B Taylor Green

Taylor Green, an unheralded 25th-round draft-and-follow in 2005, exploded onto the Brewers' prospect scene last year, hitting .327/.406/.516 for West Virginia after barely making the team out of...

Brevard's graveyard

Not as alarming as it sounds; it's an article about how tough a place it is to hit in.

Friday's Crystal Callix

Did the Brewers have a game yesterday? Hmm, must not have noticed. The biggest news this morning, courtesy of Ken Rosenthal, is that Matt LaPorta is officially on the trading block, and that...

Gamel, Jeffress, and Lucroy make the BA Hot Sheet

No.'s 11, 12, and 13, respectively. Gamel: "With a .373/.438/.631 batting line this season, Gamel is making a strong push for our Minor League Player of the Year honors. He's a tremendous hitter, with the ability to hit for average, hit for power and get on base at a good clip. Gamel, a lefthanded hitter, struggled yesterday against changeups from a righthander, but otherwise showed a patient approach and drove the ball with ease. His actions in the field aren't fluid—he made three errors in the last seven days, giving him 22 on the year—which dings his value whether he stays at third base or has to move to the outfield. But with his hitting ability, Gamel will soon force his way into a big league lineup." Jeffress: "Jeffress has one of the best fastballs in the minors, as the Florida State League has found out in recent weeks. What Jeffress needs to do now is improve his consistency. He's allowed one or fewer runs in five of his eight starts, but he's also put up three duds—giving up 20 earned runs in 11 2/3 innings. He's been making progress in that regard, going 2-1, 2.45 in June. His control has been especially impressive, as he's now struck out 56 batters and walked just 15 in 41 2/3 innings." Lucroy: "Lucroy has been knocking on the door of the Hot Sheet for several weeks now, but has been denied because his performance was more worthy of the "Men Among Boys" category, since he was 22 in low Class A. He has since moved up to high Class A, where he has continued his assault on pitchers. Four of his nine hits this week were for extra bases and his minor league totals are now .310/.382/.522 with 12 home runs in 268 at-bats."

Breaking Down the Prospect List

Recently, after being deluged with requests (okay, there were two), I added a prospect ranking to the left-hand sidebar. The off-day today seemed like a good time to expand a bit on my reasons and...

Brewers Will Try Inverse Starts at Class A-Brevard County

Remember when Doug Melvin hinted at his idea of switching pitcher alignment around in an article a few months ago? He suggested using relievers for the first three innings and then bringing in the...

BCB Interviews Stephen Chapman

Stephen Chapman, in addition to being a really cool guy, is perhaps the best left-handed power bat in the system after a certain vegetarian. He's struggling a bit this year in the...
