Former Brewers Galore

oh my! This Indians article is about 3 11 former Brewers system players: Branyan, Brantley, and the LaPortas "Brantley, a prized acquisition in the 2008 CC Sabathia trade with the Brewers" - um....he wasn't the "prized" one...he was a PTBNL whereas LaPorta WAS the prize.

Kevin Goldstein: Great Leap Forward

Scouts now have little trouble getting past catcher Angel Salome's downright strange five-foot-seven, 200-pound frame after he put together a .360/.415/.559 line at Double-A Hunstville. Beyond the outstanding offense, he also made defensive improvements behind the plate, showing more mobility, and improved accuracy on his throws. Runner-up: Outfielder Michael Brantley continued to produce at the upper levels of the system, batting .319/.395/.398 at Huntsville while showing a good approach and plus speed out of the leadoff slot. His defense still needs work.

Strange PTBNL update

"If the Brewers make the playoffs, the Indians get to choose the 'player to be named' to complete the Sabathia deal. If the Brewers don't make the postseason, they get to choose the player they'll send the Indians."

Arizona Fall League rosters released

Brewers players on the list: Omar Aguilar Mat Gamel Jeremy Jeffress Alex Periard Angel Salome David Welch Brae Wright You'll notice the absence of Michael Brantley, which is strange considering his agent said he was going to be on the team. I don't know if that's related to the epic ongoing Sabathia PTBNL saga or what.

BCB Interview: Don Money (Part One)

The last tidbit from my trip to Huntsville is the interview with Stars manager Don Money.  I got over an hour of time with Coach Money so this transcript is only a partial transcript. Part Two will...

BCB Interview: RHP Donovan Hand

Donovan Hand was a 14th-round pick out of Jacksonville State last year, and he's been a very pleasant surprise, making it all the way to AA in just his first full season. He went on the DL with an...

Haudricourt ranks the Brewers prospects by position

1B: Chris Errecard, Class AA Huntsville 2B: Eric Farris, Class A West Virginia SS: Alcides Escobar, Huntsville 3B: Mat Gamel, Huntsville C: Angel Salome, Huntsville LF: Cole Gillespie, Huntsville CF: Michael Brantley, Huntsville RF: Caleb Gindl, West Virginia SP: Jeremy Jeffress, Class A Brevard County RP: Luis Pena, Class AAA Nashville --------------------------- As he explains, a full article to come on Sunday. Hopefully someone tips him off on how to spell Errecart's name by then.

Sabathia PTBNL to be chosen from list of four, not two

"All four players are position players. Class AA outfielder Michael Brantley and Class A third baseman Taylor Green are two of the players. The identities of the other two are not known. General Manager Mark Shapiro, who is on this trip, said the Indians would probably wait until the end of the minor-league season in August to make their choice. 'There are some scenarios where we may not wait the entire time,' said Shapiro."

BCB Interview: 3B Taylor Green

Taylor Green, an unheralded 25th-round draft-and-follow in 2005, exploded onto the Brewers' prospect scene last year, hitting .327/.406/.516 for West Virginia after barely making the team out of...

Trade Ripples Muddy Tortured Prospect Metaphor

When prospects get dealt for rentals, there's usually much hand-wringing about bare cupboards and broken dreams, but from what I'm seeing in the immediate wake of the Sabathia swap, the outcry...
