Eric Arnett, Kyle Heckathorn, Zach Braddock, Jonathan Lucroy, Martin Maldonado and Logan Schafer got the call. Arnett and Heckathorn are possibly the most interesting invites...both were early 2009 picks but neither have pitched above rookie ball.
They'll send pitchers Mark Rogers, Omar Aguilar, Zach Braddock, Josh Butler and Rob Wooten, catcher Jonathan Lucroy, infielder Taylor Green and outfielder Lorenzo Cain.
UPDATE: Adam McCalvy is reporting that Mark Rogers and Josh Butler will also pitch in the AFL and Zach Braddock could be sent as well.
Yes, Zach Braddock, left-handed pitching prospect extraordinaire, just hit a grand slam in his first professional plate appearance.
A 40/4 K/BB in 24.2 innings will do that for you.
For those of you unfamiliar, Braddock is a lefty with huge strikeout rates that's had a lot of trouble staying healthy; his most recent health problem necessitated ulnar nerve transposition surgery in the offseason. He'll begin the year at Brevard County.
"Taylor Green is 'taking longer than we thought' to return from offseason wrist surgery, Melvin said. The Brewers don't expect him back until June, and Green may be asked to return to the Arizona Fall League at the end of the season." "[Seidel] slipped on some ice during the winter and "tore up" his knee, Melvin said, and underwent surgery." Also says that Alex Periard and Zach Braddock "should be able to pitch in 2009." Great!
As long as he doesn't get injured, Braddock is gonna be pretty Internet-famous soon. Season stats / Career stats
