Sad News

Some sad news as former Brewers pitcher Geremi Gonzalez was killed by a lightning strike Sunday night while on a beach in Venezuela.

Thoughts with his family.

Brewers Lineup

Ned decides to bench Braun in favor of Dillon starting and batting third.

Kapler is also playing instead of Gross.

I don't know what else to say other than this is a strange lineup.

Thoughts anyone?  Filler Filler Filler Filler

Brewers Trade Estrada

Link Here: http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/ny-spmets1121,0,2690590.story

I know I know, I can't do the fancy links and I know it's somewhere on this site, oh well.
Anyways, he was traded to the Mets for Guillermo Mota.
Any thoughts anyone?  I think this obviously means we'll be signing Jason Kendall. And this hopefully makes the mets worse with their clubhouse cancer.

[UPDATE: It looks like we actually signed Kendall to one-year deal. Details pending, check this space, etc. --- roguejim]

Game Thread # 154 Brewers (79-74) at Braves (80-74)

"You're just feeling sorry for yourself. Self-pity! You didn't kill Skipper. He killed himself. You and skipper and millions like you are living in a kids' world. Playing games, touch downs, no worries, no responsibilities. Life ain't no damn football (baseball) game. Life ain't just a buncha high spots. You're a thirty-year-old kid. Soon you'll be a fifty-year-old kid. Pretendin' you're hearin' cheers when there ain't any. Dreamin' and drinkin' your life away. Heroes in the real world live twenty-four hours a day, not just two hours in a game. Mendacity! You won't live with mendacity! Well, you're an expert at it. The truth is pain and sweat and payin' bills and makin' love to a woman you don't love any more. Truth is dreams that don't come true, and nobody prints your name in the paper till you die."
--Big Daddy
From: Cat On A Hot Tin Roof --Tennessee Williams

I put this quote because it reminded me of Haudricourt for some reason talking to us about Ned Yost being the next son of Jesus.  I guess we don't have the right to say anything bad about Nedly anymore?  I added baseball in ().  Sorry if I offend anyone, but it reminded of Fox News when they say we can't criticize certain Generals (Please, let's not talk politics here).

John Smoltz might be old, see Jamie I put that in there, but he's still pretty damn good. It's going to be tough against him today.  He's allowed 3 earned runs or fewer in nine straight starts.  He's also had his shortest start of the year against the BrewCrew, but that was because of an injury.  Because he's old, we should get his pitchcount up.

Yovani Gallardo, however, is very young.  My age actually (I obviously am way behind his curve) and he has 21 straight scoreless innings.  Gallardo has also won his last four starts.  He'll have to extend that stream against a tough offense.

And, oh yeah, we're prime time baby on Fox.  Perhaps Vasgersian will be back calling one of our games (that sell out!).  It's a great pitching matchup and it should be a great game.  This would be a huge win.  Here's, once again, my guess at the lineup:

2b Counsell (he's 8-16 career vs Smoltz)
Rf Hart
3b Braun
1b Fielder
Cf Hall (3-8 with a homerun)
Lf Jenkins (2-6 witha  homerun)
C Estrada
Ss Hardy

Bumped of course. For southeastern Wisconsites with Time Warner, I think the game might be in HD.

Game Thread # 153 Brewers (78-74) at Braves (80-73)

"I don't say these things because I believe in the 'brute' nature of man or that men must be brutalized to be combative. I believe in God, and I believe in human decency. But I firmly believe that any man's finest hour - his greatest fulfillment to all he holds dear - is that moment when he has to work his heart out in a good cause and he's exhausted on the field of battle - victorious."
-Vince Lombardi

I thought it'd be good idea to bring some Lombardi luck to the Brewers.
So, I'm guessing that since the Brewers lost to Jeff Bennett that they'll definately beat the likes of Tim Hudson.  Right?  That's how this team plays.
Anyways, Hudson is coming off a complete game shutout against Washington but we're not Washington.  I expect us to knock Hudson out around the 5th after he's give up three bombs and six runs.
For the Brewers, they counter with Villanueva.  In his last 21 innings, including a 3 inning save at Arizona, he's only given up 3 runs.  I like our chances tonight.  Here's my guess at the lineup:

2b Weeks
Ss Hardy
3b Braun
1b Fielder
Rf Hart
Lf Jenkins
C Estrada
Cf Hall

Go Brewers!!

Jeffress suspended 50 games

For drug abuse, but details were not made offiical nor do I feel they will be (possibly leaked?). Obviously this is not good news. Doug Melvin had this to say,
"The Milwaukee Brewers support Major League Baseball's drug program and its decision to suspend Jeremy Jeffress. The organization takes these matters very seriously and we are in the process of formulating a plan in hopes that Jeremy can redeem himself. Jeremy will be provided every opportunity to get his career back on track through the Brewers' Employee Assistance Program."

Brewers Trade Balfour to...

The Devil Rays for Pitcher Seth McClung. McClung does not have very good (to say the least) major league numbers, but he was rushed by the D-Rays in 03 after he had some good numbers in high A-ball. He then struggled in AA which told the D-Rays that's good enough.
Anyways, he's having a good year in AAA, similar to Balfour and I believe is a year younger.
