Wisconsin boy headed to Seattle

After his agent was rebuffed by Doug Melvin ("We don't need any of your ridiculously overpriced vets, Scott, we have Tomo!" he is reported to have said), Jarrod Washburn is on the brink of signing a four-year deal with the Mariners for $35 to $40 million.

I can't tell you how glad I am that Doug just said no--even with a hometown discount, Jarrod would be overpaid from the beginning, possibly an albatross by year three.  That said, best of luck to Jarrod--I'm sure he'll put up decent numbers in Safeco, and perhaps he can discuss good Milwaukee eateries with Richie Sexson.
