The end of an era...

...perhaps.  And it wasn't exactly a defining era, except for those of us who got really excited about the possibility of 40 tape-measure dingers a year, even if coupled with 180 K's.  Of course, I'm referring to Russell Branyan, who has been designated for assignment to make room for Koskie.  But there is still hope, says Doug:

"The opportunity was just not going to be here for Russell.  We'd like to find a way to keep him in the big leagues. Friday will be decision day. If he's not traded or claimed, I told him I wouldn't rule out a non-roster invite (to spring camp)."

I would be shocked if he isn't claimed, but then again the Brewers have probably been talking to teams about him all offseason long, with apparently no serious interest.  Despite the fact that Corey Koskie is a solid pickup and will improve the team, Russell's departure will be a sad day.
