They aren't the real thing, but The Sporting News collects votes from players, managers and coaches around the league. The results announced so far: Dan Uggla is the TSN Rookie of the Year; Girardi the Manager of the Year.
There is, however, a quirk in the process that probably saved the day for Uggla:
Players turned in their ballots by the middle of September, which turned out to be Uggla's worst month (.221 with five home runs and 10 RBI). He finished with a .272 batting average, a team-high 27 home runs and 90 RBI.
The runner-up was Washington third baseman Ryan Zimmerman, who hit .287 with 20 homers and 110 RBI.
