Looks like the Cubbies are zeroing in on the most expensive target of the offseason. Could make for an impressive Cubs offense for the next couple of years: Aramis Ramirez, Derrek Lee, and Soriano in the middle of the order.
As I just said over here, this could be great for the long-term, if not for right now. The Cubbies will be tied down to a couple of huge contracts--A-Ram and Sori--for quite a while, which will limit their ability to solve other problems, like filling out a starting rotation. There is absolutely no way this will be a good deal in 2014, and it probably won't be all that great in 2010. I'm skeptical about 2007, for that matter.
