Winter League Notes

The official site checks in with an update on all the Brewers farmhands in various winter leagues around the world.  Of course, if you're a regular reader of this site, you know exactly how our AFLers are faring, but you might not be tracking the Venezuelan and Mexican winter leagues quite so carefully.

Here's a not very uplifting tidbit:

RHP Mike Jones: Jones put up good numbers for Brevard County with a 2.80 ERA in 19 appearances, 13 as a starter. He got a late-season promotion to Double-A Huntsville and pitched one-hit ball for four innings in his only start for the Stars. However, it hasn't gone as well with the Hermosillo Orange Growers, where he is 0-3 with a 14.04 ERA in three starts.

And a better one, though about someone we can't reasonably have such high hopes for:

RHP Joe Valentine: Valentine picked up saves in consecutive games, giving him five this season. He pitched a perfect inning on Oct. 31 and allowed only one hit the next day. Valentine has not surrendered a run in any of his last five appearances and has a 3.60 ERA in 10 games.

Eventually I'll extend MinorLeagueSplits.com to include all of the non-USA winter leagues, but that's a project for another week.  (If you didn't know, I am keeping somewhat updated stats on Hawaii Winter Baseball and the Arizona Fall League, too.)
