A Ruthian Retirement

This picture is from The Sporting News of November 15, 1934. It's of Babe Ruth and Connie Mack stopping Hawaii on their way to a barnstorming tour in Japan. That tour is one of things I discuss in this article I recently wrote for Baseball Digest Daily on the end of the Babe's career:

As Bonds makes his way toward Babe Ruth's record, I thought it would be interesting to take a look back at the Bambino's last few home runs to see how that legend managed his last days as a player. I expected to find fawning reports of a farewell tour alongside good-natured jibes about the Babe's bad habits. Instead, I found a saga almost as acrimonious as some of the debates surrounding Barry Bonds.
