New Brewer

The Brewers claimed Marino Salas off waivers from the Orioles. Major bonus points to Al for predicting the move.

Salas is a right-handed relief pitcher, 25 years old, pitched in AA last year. He's posted pretty good K-rates throughout his career and kept the ball in the park well. He seems to fare significantly better against righties, against whom he allowed no home runs and had a significantly higher K-rate (9.43 vs. 6.95).

John Sickels had this to say about Salas in his new prospect handbook:

His fastball runs in at 92-94 MPH, and his slider is adequate. When he throws strikes, he can get people out...and yes, the exact same thing can be said for a lot of other people who don't always throw strikes. But he did pass his Double-A test, showing improved control compared to earlier in his career. He is another Grade C prospect who could contribute as a middle reliever for the right team
Nothing especially inspiring there, but it's always nice to have options.
