Good Times

This is my third year of trying to write about stuff during spring training, and I'll be honest: I suck at it.  I read all the recap articles, and I think, "this is not newsworthy."  I don't particularly care that Claudio Vargas got bombed in his first Cactus League outing.

On the other hand, it's fantastic that Ryan Braun went deep.  I think he could do that every game for the rest of the spring and probably still go to Triple-A.   And I'm not even sure that's a bad thing; frankly, I'm psyched about the Todd Walker idea right now, especially with the idea that we could flip Walker in July and call up Braun at that point.  Graffasell wouldn't be the end of the world, but it wouldn't be a very good start to a promising season.

Now for some assorted stuff:

  • While we're talking about spring training, be sure to check out Jamie's diary.  I've always wanted to go to spring training, and this year it seems like everybody I know is going except for me.  Maybe next year...

  • Did any of you guys know about this movie?  It's about the minor leagues, and it focused on some Brewers farmhands, including Marco Scutaro.  It's next up in my Netflix queue, so I'll be sure to let you know more about it after I see it.

  • Here's another piece about college splits, this one with some random factoids Kent and I discovered while putting together the site.

There are TWO games today at 2:05 CT; one against the A's, with Dave Bush starting, the other against the Giants, with former SF minor leaguer Carlos Villanueva.  Revenge is sweet, but probably not quite so sweet on March 2nd as it will be when Villanueva throws a shutout against his former organization during the season.
